December 5, 200915 yr Looking way into the future but I reckon the above 2 would make a fantastic pairing for next year. She's got dark markings, great wings, shoulder, length and feather. He's got the top end, shoulder and feather. Both very nice. Good idea DARYL and he is pale where she is not. Does his paleness indicate that he may be dilute, rather than greywing?

I guess it's probably not likely that both parents are split for dilute. I don't know how people tell the difference. It's a good thing I don't have to worry about messing up anyone's show stock. I just lump them all in the same category and call them all "greywings". (That wouldn't be good for show breeders, would it?)
December 6, 200915 yr Author Dad Mum First chick to this pair tried to hatch during the really hot weather yesterday and only ended up opening part of his egg, I opened the egg this morning as he had begun to dry and wasnt moving much. I think he will die. He is out of energy after his unusual attempt at hatching on the hot day. He is all stiff and doesnt seem to be able to uncurl his neck from its position in the egg More eggs to hatch.

I am sure it is unorthodox .... but in hot weather I pop eggs that are due to hatch into my mouth, give them a good ole lick and pop them back ...

Do you clean the poo off at the same time?

Yeah if you do it that way you have to be careful with the temperature ... this way you don\'t By the time a hen has a fine mist on her and enters the nestbox the droplets of water would be her own body temperature. If you wanna go suck eggs, on your head be it  but I'm not Edited December 6, 200915 yr by KAZ
December 7, 200915 yr Eek! I'll have that whole "sucking poo off budgie eggs" thing stuck in my mind all day now...... As far as the greywings go though, Kaz they are tremendous! And yes a few open breeders breed greywings but not to any great extent and these birds are LOVELY. I always did like that dark green (or is it grey green???) hen. Maybe you could bring her down for me when you visit. I don't breed greywings but then I wouldn't care what she was, she's a beautiful bird. Looking forward to seeing them all grow on. December 22, 200915 yr Your greywing breeding appears to be going well. You have done well to identify a niche, get good birds and breed such good birds. This might be the first of many areas for you at the nationals

December 26, 200915 yr you might suprise yourself kaz. I will second that Dave,by the photoes posted you would have be in with a chance,to get one on the bench.

Who Kaz? The only full time greywing breeder in wa that I know is you. Other good greywings from wa from what I understand have come out of other varieties as recessive surprises. Well recent ones anyway. AND your greywing babies are looking pretty special.

Well recent ones anyway. AND your greywing babies are looking pretty special. Well, I was thinking....Cec Gearing, Rita Posthuma, Carl Alder and Jeff Lloyd for starters I would like to make a decent project out of the greywings not just dabble in them. Here are two of my recent greywing babies and they seem to have paired up in the aviary different parents so unrelated. Edited December 26, 200915 yr by KAZ
December 26, 200915 yr You have come a long way in a short time with your greywings Kaz. I think you under rate your own chances. The beauty of the niche market is that you are not competing with everyone, only a small group. If you bred good greens, blues or greys, then it would be much harder
December 29, 200915 yr they look great. I have given it some thought, and I do prefer the blue greywings - still
