Posted October 12, 200915 yr Hi all budgie experts! I have a hen in a breeding cage with a cock who appears to be sitting on five clear eggs. I am hopeful with two of the eggs, they appear to be changing colour but I am not sure. Anyway I will give them another couple of days but if they are all clear whats the best thing to do? Should I remove all the eggs and hope she replaces them with fertile? Let her sit on the eggs unti she rejects them? Take both hen and cock out of breeding cage and put back int the aviary? Change the cock? Or something else? Thanks.

October 12, 200915 yr Author About 10 days ago. macka just so you know but 'these people' are fellow members and if you didint want to answer the question then thats fine, but being rude is really not going to make us new members comfortable. If you are not going to be helpful but simply be a smart **** perhaps dont reply?
October 12, 200915 yr I would toss the eggs then..........try and work out why they are clear..... Cock too old or not in condition ? Hen going to nest too soon and not mating ? Too much feather and they need plucking ?

Lutino Budgie, how hard is it to say,the first egg was layed on the 20th of September or the 1st of the month & a smart A like me, would say have you candled them & you don't have to be very clever to candle a egg,if it is 12 to 14 days in to the cooking & the light shines through it,it aint going to hatch, end of story
October 12, 200915 yr you will get use to macka if you cant just egg nore him... soz mac but some people just cant understand the dynamics of frustration reading glass half full questions can do to you sometimes lutino as stated in mackas own straight to the point words it is hard to answer things without full information im a culprit of it myself if you cradled eggs and they clear then i would really be wondering two things do u have other birds breeding is it worth just leaving her their as a foster stand by if others have eggs due around same hatch dates and if its cold weather dont think a egg is infertile till at leased 12 to 14 as macka pointed out as weather he comes acrossed rude or not here right on that one many a breeded has told me my eggs were infertile and i chose to let hen decide for self i got 9 chicks out of my 24 supossed infertile eggs they were all 7 days layed and in their i had 5 die from none feeding first time maden hens
October 13, 200915 yr GB,You are a quick learner,I must of spoken to you for no more then 15 minites,I would't use the person again, who told you, your eggs were not fertile, unless you had the dates mixed up.At 7 days you should be able to tell, with out to much trouble.

October 16, 200915 yr Settle down "children". If the eggs are ten days over the first eggs due date, then they are probably all clear or d.i.shell? BUT This was my first year breeding, I had one pair with 5 clear first round. Took both out of cage for about a week or so, they were still bonded etc in aviary so I tried again, she laid 9 I waited and waited, Thought here we go again. I candled eggs and thought 4 still looked okay. took clear eggs, left the four. and they hatched, must have been last four of clutch. So don't give up, as Kaz said toss this lot. Maybe she'll lay again or take them out from nest box and try again in a week or so if they're still a "couple". Good Luck.
