Can anyone post a picture of a mauve budgie...I don't know what they look like and have a chance that one of our new babies could turn out to be mauve.

Thanks :D

unfortunately that's not always the rule - Many birds who're indeed grey have blue cheek patches, as opposed to silver, so sometimes it gets hard to tell. But as a general rule you go by the cheek patches. Body colour of the bird also comes into it. Grey is very distinguishable from the blue tinge to a mauve which looks like a "blue grey".

Although their are many birds who have also had this part of the colour compromised so you'll see many "grey" show birds especially who look VERY blue ^_^

Here's a comparison between one of my greys and one of my mauves.

With a voilet cheek patches ^_^

yes macka you are right

i left that out

with violet cheek patches all mauves have violet patches or they are not mauve

birds mutations are determined by colour of their patches and tails and not the body colour as so much can very in the body colour but the patches are always right tails feet irisses ect

all birds have a set mutation classification you can find them in any good book on budgies mutations and genetics

Interesting! I have a couple of birds that colour! I will be checking their cheek patches first thing tomorrow.

I always thought they were grey with violet suffusion .... ^_^

What are the genetics behind them? Cobalt x Violet?
