October 10, 200915 yr Well you're lucky you caught it in time! Last week I had a hen scalp a baby that came out of the nest overnight and the little one had gone into shock and was dead by the time I found it in the morning .... first time this year, and of course it would be in the nest I hadn't removed the Dad early 'cause they seemed like really good parents ....
October 10, 200915 yr Lucky you got it in time The change in the spangle is amazing - awesome looking bird.
October 10, 200915 yr By the look of the chick when you took the photo the other day,he shoulld of been put in the baby pen or have some thing in the bottem of the cage that they can hide in,if they are attacked.

October 10, 200915 yr Author By the look of the chick when you took the photo the other day,he shoulld of been put in the baby pen or have some thing in the bottem of the cage that they can hide in,if they are attacked. Macka the white is 5 weeks old next Thursday and the sky is is 2 days younger so he is 4 weeks today, The white one came out of the nest yesterday for the first time and there is a hidy box on the floor but that didn't save him. They are not feeding themselves probably yet and the hen is on her own. Before dark I checked on him and he was sitting up on the perch so I hope that is a good sign. Hoping he doesn't die from shock.

October 10, 200915 yr How is the little guy doing today? I never know when the right time to put a bird in a Kindy cage is. Some parents are great, then they seem to simply snap and lose the plot. If we privde the hideout in the bottom of the cage, sometimes there is nothing we can do. I hope he is okay
October 11, 200915 yr Author Yep sitting up on the perch but his upper beak is a bit loose from whrere she tore it, I hope it mends on its own. Last year a hen ropped in to a lovely cobalt pied her daughter and ripped the beak off it was hanging by a thread. Greg had to put her to sleep no beak no food. But this little guy seems to be okay, the beak is attached but ripped one end nut it looks like it will heal.
October 11, 200915 yr Author He seems to be doing okay, he is perky as ever so I guess he will make it
October 16, 200915 yr I am real sorry to hear that mate Often the wounds are deeper than we can imagine and the infection sets in, especially head wounds.
October 16, 200915 yr He died this morning poor little fella if it doesn't rain - it pours. Sorry to hear that Splat.
October 16, 200915 yr Author But he seemed to be getting on fine everytime i went near the cage he would jump to the front and I would open the door and he would jump onto mmy hand he loved the attention so I was really shocked he died but at the same time it still could of been the shock from the attack.
