Posted October 10, 200915 yr Can anyone post some pictures of perhaps some 11 days old Opaline chicks, especially compared to a normal chick at the same age? I need to know how to recognise whether a baby is Opaline or not at an early age.
October 10, 200915 yr You really do NOT need a picture as opaline chicks have snowy white down and others have grey down.
October 10, 200915 yr Author I know, but every chick I've had in the nest that is not Opaline has had what looks like white down! It's definitely not grey..I want to be able to tell by markings. Edited October 10, 200915 yr by Jen144

January 22, 201015 yr Thank you, that is exactly what I was looking for! This is exactly what I am looking for too, except I am having trouble seeing if the down is grey when the chicks are still pink, and only the down feathers are coming in. All of mine look the same, the down pins look white. Does anyone have any pictures of a really young opaline compared to a really young normal, so I can see what grey down looks like when it is first coming in?
January 22, 201015 yr HI Finnie I've been thread digging and came up with this Spangle to Spangle pairing of Kazs'. AND who should it be? SANTA hahah I was looking for Spangle pairings and after I had been going through the thread I realized that it was about my gorgeous boy, his siblings and parents. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....24664&st=40 <---that particular page has pictures of two young opalines But the whole thread has loads of pictures on it....Plus I know you like Spangles as much as I do
January 22, 201015 yr one on the bottom is opaline, all others are normals by itself you can see the noraml black pins on the wings and the white pins (start of down feathers) on the body
January 22, 201015 yr Thanks for posting those pictueres, Nerwen. Quite educational. Next time I check on my chicks, I'll have to see if I've learned anything. Amy, I really enjoyed going back over that old post of Kaz'. It was nice to see Santa as a baby!
