Sad today my white Df spangle cock was mated to grey opaline spangle well she has 3 in her nest one has splayed legs and I did what Kaz said but over night the legs blew up not enough circulation so I took it off and tied the legs with string on the rings as I am double ringing all birds at the moment. well one leg went down but the splayed one didn't very swollen but she is still alive and it is a week tomorrow since I did it, BUT i went out this morning and found her nest mate dead still warm and a full crop, I am heart broken as the Chick would be 18 days old at least.

So not only do I get clear eggs now they are dying on me, this is the first one I have olst this season at this stage.

I have lost a few at 1 day old. BUT not this age

Oh my, I am truly sorry for your loss

I am sorry mate......there's nothing easy about breeding budgies is there ? especially when you have hopes for certain nests.

PS sponge method you have to be sure the holes allow circulation...slits wont work...has to be holes.

So true Kaz my hopes for this nest and his brothers nest is fading by the day  I was calling this boy my little stud because he filled 5 eggs but now I only have 2 left and his brother was put with his aunty full sister to their father she is a cinnamon spangle 1st nest clear and second nest 1 fertile egg which I am wating to hatch looking unlikely to me though. :(

Chin up Babe.

Things are obviously getting you down. Take some time out for yourself....anything that makes you feel good for awhile. You need to start thinking of your glass as half full not half empty.

Biggest hugs :(

If all else fails....move to W.A. B)

B) I know what your talking about Kaz and your probably right, things are no better here. :( Maybe the birds can feel my moods  and are stressed because of me :D

Sorry about your chick Splat, but fingers crossed for your other little one. I know how you feel I lost my Grey Opaline this morning (he was Squeaky last week as posted) Was going really well, but to-day he was dead in cage. But, onward and upward!

Bad things happen in breeding budgies. I lost my favourite baby in the kindie cage a skyviolet cinnamon.......partly due to the fact I was so so busy and didnt notice he wasnt eating as well as he should have been. I saw him eating but apparently he wasnt eating well enough.

tell me about it doesnt matter how good your set up how good your birds and management is

breeding birds can sometimes be a heart breaking hobby

all sort of things can go wrong in a split second :ohmygod:

i was only asking about sun as i was interested just asked at a bad time i guess i was not sugesting this had anything to do with young ones death just to clarify :camera:

Thanks everyone. It was pretty sad poor little darling. GB my birds getting plenty of sun in the aviaries but of coarse not in the breeding room but they get soluvite D in their water.

It wouldn't be that as it is the 1st one I have lost lije that and I have been breeding since March.

When I was loosing a few one day old chicks it was the hens faukt mainly but I did treat them all for yellow belly . Then the breeding improved slightly.

Splat, when you breed live stock, there is also dead stock,

As long as you are doing the right things, with your birds &

I you do,there is nothing else you can do but keep moving on.

All the self doubt will do nothing, just keep smileing :camera:

The pr that have the clear eggs, pluck both of them clean of

feathers & if you think the tail feathers are getting in the road

remove them as well. :ohmygod:

okay thanks Macka, I am not breeding anymore this year but I will do that next year and see if it makes a difference :ohmygod:

When I started putting my pairs down, I was very excited. One of my pairs - Dumb and Kestral - layed 5 eggs and I thought that was great. Turns out they were all infertile. i plucked them both, and it helped immensely. They had 3 hatchlings in the next round. I say follow Macka's advice, and pluck or trim. Give them a go after that.

So sorry for your loss :ohmygod: Sucks some times.

I hope everything improves from now on
