Hey, can anyone tell me how to start breeding? I've got the light thing, the budgies, the nesting boxes, the bedding, a huge cage, the nutrition, the calcium and natural branches, is there anything I've missed?

And quarantine which you havent got happening and time to settle into a new home before setting up for breeding.

I know, I just want everything ready and to check if I've got everything.

Read through all the breeding posts and do a search in FAQ's too... I suggest a few months research and lots of questions before you even consider breeding.

EDIT: After reading some of your other posts, I'd also make sure your parents know what's involved in breeding, what can go wrong, and what needs to be done if it does.

I first thought of breeding last year, so I've researched everything that could go wrong, like sour crop, splayed leg, egg binding and the nutrition and the housing. But this is my first go at it.

sometimes we can read read read and research but nothing prepares you for real life happenings

i suggest you

get a check list of all things you may need and have some money aside for if you need a vet

how many birds do you have ???

start with 3 pairs and and get 2 year old rung birds green ring or o8 black ring

choose birds that look like they have paired up already or buy as paired this way you may have less probs

you can sell these off once you get a feel for whats going on

dont for get to ivomectom drop to neck is best and worm them feed them a bit of cod liver or linseed one month before breeding a tea spoon to a 5 kg bag so not to much in a small dish mix it through let sit for for bout 2 hours then feed so it sokes into seed change this dayly as it does go sour and can make birds sick

doing this their is less chance of birds egg binding

good luck have fun enjoy

Thanks GB, I heard that egg binding is less common in warmer weather?

it can be caused by few things not just cold

although cold seems to slow the egg laying cycle up and laying can become irregular and cause

egg binding

but other reasons also can do it like bird to young being one other thing
