Posted April 21, 200520 yr : :bluebudgie: I have a hen whose partner died about a month ago.She has now started to lay again on her own and now has 4 eggs. I know they are not fertile ,but what should I do?. Edited April 21, 200520 yr by Harry.o0
April 21, 200520 yr Give her a few days to rotate them but BEFORE she sits on them, withdraw them a few at a time. REMOVE the nestbox or whatever she has chosen to nest in. No box usually means no more eggs. If she is laying at random around the cage then simply remove them. As you say you have 24 birds - I doubt if she lacks companionship (!) but if she is in fact in a cage on her own she needs new companionship. So introducing company is a good idea but I think I would consider a mirror and another but younger hen to start with. A cock bird might be an affront to the memory of her dear departed though I don't subscribe to the theory that budgies mate for life - though they MAINLY seem to have a longer term or more important partner. But a hen is a safer bet than another cock. Edited April 21, 200520 yr by graemesmith
