Hen Breaking Eggs. Is It Worth Keeping Her?

I have this hen that has laid 10 eggs so far in 2 separate clutches, most of them fertile but she has broken all of them. They either end up on the floor of her cage or she cracks them in her nest box. I'm convinced she throws them out after sitting on them for a while? Will this behaviour end or do I give her the flick? It's most annoying as I have her paired up with a very nice Texas cock who is doing all the right things.

I ha a hen who did that this year, very annoying as she is very nice too. After the second scrambled egg I started removing the eggs after she had laid them and transferred them to the nest of another hen who was laying at that time. I did this with 5 eggs. I also popped in a couple of clear eggs after 5 days and surprisingly she didn't break them. When the chicks began to hatch I popped them back in with her after 24hrs and she is currently raising 3 chicks without any dramas so far.

Worth a try! :)

Thanks for that. Will have to try that when she lays some more eggs.

I'd keep her but you won't be able to breed her, maybe use her to foster chicks?
