Fluffed Up Birds!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a cock budgie...he is paired up with a hen ( not bonded though ). He is not very active at all, I have had him for a few months. I have noticed him all fluffed up always, but today he is more fluffed up than usual!!

Should I leave him on his own...Don't think he is too well maybe??? And don't want to pass it to other birds....Or is it okay to leave. I know when birds that were fluffed and died didn't effect the others from what I saw in the avairy, as I don't have a large avairy now thats why.

Don't know what previous owner feed him...but all my other birds eat Greens and fruit I give, he has never touched anything other than seed>>>>>

Also is it normal for them to fluff up and be okay....

And my success at breeding so far = ZERO LOL

well if you dont think he is too well i woulde say to icolate him and its not the best idea to breed unless both birds are in full health. is he eating alright? any other signs of illness example pooey bum ? sorry i am no further help but i would definatly isolate and keep warm xx

I'd seperate him from the rest of your budgies, fast. If he gets any worse warm up a hot water bottle or put him in front of a fire or heater, also keep him hydrated. Sick birds often die, not from the illness but from dehydration. If he hasn't touched anything apart from seed, maybe his previous owner only fed him seed? Are you sure he's actually eating seed, not just picking up whole ones and dropping them? Just keep him in the dark and quiet for now and if you have a good avian vet I would consult them.

If he has been showing signs of fuffing for some time i would follow daves advice. You cock may have mega, which is slow acting and causes the bird to waste away. is he thin??
