Posted September 18, 200915 yr Early this morning I noticed my budgie I just got with a bloody eye. I caught him to get a closer look...It's like jelly around the eye socket slightly bloodly. He has been very active since getting him....like a budgie on speed LOL I also noticed him rubbing his face on the cage metal. Another budgie has done the same for awhile but nothing has happenrd like this one. I also got cages and nest from a breeder selling out and I did clean and disinfect them...Just wondering if there could be something around them. Could this be an infection or did the hen do this...she has been aggressive towards him. How could I treat it?? how can I put something on its eye to treat without harming it?? Sorry the pictures are not great/// Please help
September 18, 200915 yr It could be any of the things you mentioned. He could have irritated it, it could be an ingrown feather, and blocked tear duct. A worm in the eye (YUK!), psittacosis (BAD!) , an injury etc. It looks red, swollen and painful... a vet visit would be the best thing for him right now to work out what is causing the eye to be inflamed. In the mean time, always assume the worst and lock down for possible psittacosis. keep him isolated and wash your hands well after touching him. hopefully its not psittacosis, but its better to be safe than sorry.
