Worried About Male Budgerigar's Cere

Featured Replies

Posted

A month or two ago I made a thread on this site asking about my budgerigar's cere colour. I was told that it was fine and stopped worrying about it. A month or two has passed now, and nothing has changed with his cere, if anything it has gotten worse. The area around his nostrils are a whitish colour. The area on the sides of his cere is more of a redish colour and the area between his nostrils is slightly brown.

Here are a few pictures of his cere. Some of them you can get a better look at the cere if you look at his reflection in the mirror (only way I could make him stay still :thankyou:).

Anyone have any idea of what's up with him? Is it normal for him to be going through? If so, will it stay like that forever? & if there is somethng wrong, should i take him to the vet, or is it something i can treat at home?

Thanks!

He is fine. he is a recessive pied and variations in the male cere are quite normal :thankyou:

Recessive pieds such as my Pretty in my signature go through different darkness in their cere when they are in breeding condition, Pretty's used to get really pink when he was going through that "flirt" stage and wanted to breed. I don't breed my birds so when it passes you will see that the cere will lighten up in pink. As Liv said everything is normal :thankyou:

"He" may be a "she"... there is always that option..

No, not a she. He looks to be out of breeding condition at the moment is all. 100% male there

male and just having variaties in the changing of the cere but nice to know you care enough for your birds to ask x x

Alright, well thats good to know.

I should really stop being so paranoid about these kind's of things, but then if something was ever wrong with him and I ignored i would be very angry with myself :D

Thankyou all for your help.

Just one last question, whats the average time that he'll be out of breading condition? (just curious, I don't breed bird but my sister wants to know..)

off the top of my head i thing the breeding cycle is every seven wks? but this can vairy slightly from bird to bird xx

I don't want to sound paranoid.. but his cere is still the same and it's been like 3-4 months. Is this still normal? :(

To be honest Hannah, we have all given an opinion and thats all we can do. If you are really worried, maybe get checked by an avian vet.
