What Is Wrong With Ashley's Eyes?

What is wrong with Ashley's eyes? I noticed something a little off with her eyes, one in particular, a few days ago..but didn't do anything as I wasn't sure..Ash has always had weird eyes, in that I am not used to seeing red eyes with pink skin, all the rest of my birds are not Albinos. But today when I looked at her (after being gone for two days) I saw this; and I knew it wasn't normal.

Anyone have any ideas so to what it is? She is moulting, none of the other birds look even slightly like this, and I can't get to a vet until tomorrow at the earliest. So, advice please? Separate her, leave her in, put her in a warm cage...what to do? She's been like this for a couple days, and by nature is a relatively quiet and not very active bird, but she is as active (as Ash gets) as normal, so no fluffed up appearance etc. Acting as normally as if nothing were wrong. Her left eye is the worst one, though as you can see both are pretty bad. Is this from her moulting, or an eye infection, or?

Thanks in advance.

I am no expert but I would say she is probably moulting around her eye like that and it probably is more noticable because she is an ino other then that it could be mites.

Oh gosh not that again.

I had it in a bird, it goes away, then it comes back, then it goes away. Then she died. I took her to the vet - an avian specialist, and although he found some bacteria around the eye, he didnt think it should cause the feather loss. He never ended up finding out what it was because she died and we dont know if it was related to the eye...

Good luck =/

Edit: Seperate that bird from your flock ASAP!

Oh dear. That is comforting..not.. :D

I've put her in a seperate cage now, away from the rest of the birds. I'll take her to the vet this morning/afternoon, as soon as I can get there.

Also, might be worth mentioning, this bird, the whole time I have had her, whenever she breathes her tail bobs slightly. More so than normal (or what I assume to be normal, more than my other birds ever do). And now it's even worse, bobbing up and down a lot when she breathes. Could that be related? It's worse than when one of my birds is about to lay an egg, and she does not look like she is about to lay an egg...

Have you got any spot on ivermectin ? I would be dosing her with that first.

Alright I'll do that. Once I do how long should I wait for results, I mean if it is mites then how do I know, if it isn't and I don't go to the vet she might not be okay!

2 weeks you should see improvement if mites. Tail pumping can be due to being chased and caught and also due to air sac mites.

Tail pumping indicates she is indeed in some sort of distress. Have you weighed her? Feel for her keel bone and see what sort of condition she is in. My poor girl was fine, but then in a week or so wasted away very quickly and then died despite anti-biotics and a hospital cage and all sorts of vet tests.

Took her to the vet, just got back. The actual bird vet wasn't there, but another vet saw her. Turns out she has mites and some sort of respiratory infection too, so have to quarantine her from the other birds and watch them carefully as well.

So she was given stuff for the mites plus I need to give her antibiotics (Baytril) twice a day for 5 days. I hope that's all that's wrong with her..If there's no improvement though I'll take her back to be seen by the avian vet next week.

As far as how skinny she is..When I caught her from the aviary she seemed alright, I can't weigh her as the smallest scales I have measures in 100 grams, so yeah.

I'll be keeping a very close eye on her, at the first sign of trouble I'll take her to the vet and make sure we see the avian one. I'm hoping what my bird has is not what yours had!

Thank you for the advice by the way, really helps. :D

I finshed giving Ashley the antibiotics yesterday..Her eyes are improving but I haven't seen any improvement in her breathing yet. When should I put her back in the aviary (considering what she has may be contagious)? When she is breathing normally again? How long should I wait for improvement before I get worried?

No, keep her in the hospital cage until she is 110%

Give her 5 days of pro biotic now that you have finished the antibiotics to get her natural flora balance back.
