Posted September 14, 200915 yr Hi - im new to this - and I have a new budgie - called "Sparky". Ive had him about 9 days and he's about 6 weeks old (I say he becasue the shop i bought him from said he was a he and was 5 weeks old). Things seem to be going quite well - hes eating well (just seed at the moment - doesnt seem to be too interested in other stuff yet - ill give it time and keep trying), seems happy as hes almost always busy, chirping and tweeting duein he day, we have him sitting on our finger already without too much coaxing and he seems to be liked to be "tickled". There is 1 behaviour im a bit worried about though - he comes to the side of the cage where he can look out and see me (he doesnt seem to do it else where in the cage- just where he can see me), puts 1 leg on the perch, the other leg on the cage and then rubs his head along the side of the cage wire- back and forward time after time through out 80 degrees from top to the side. He does it quite alot but only seems to be when Im around and he can see me. I read somehwere he might be malting but i thought he'd be too young and no real other signs (ie no feathers anywhere !!) Any ideas why - should I be worried - will he grow out of it? Regards James
September 14, 200915 yr this is normal behaviour and he is scratching himself... he is also probably trying to ask you to give him a head scratch.... babies at this age are easy to train so if you are able to teach your bird to put his neck out for a scratch it shows a sign of friendship by the way, WELCOME to the forum :emoticon112:
