Posted September 12, 200915 yr have a babie that is always getting out of nest box way to early and on inspection instead of just poping it back the first few times noticed it has a top beak sitting just inside the bottom beak there is no hard food stuck in it very clean to have made it misshapened what is the best way to deal with this the bird is chasing parents for food they are still feeding it at the moment but seem to be slowly ignoring it i gave it some handfeeding today but want to know whether to trim the bottom beak or not and or will it fix itself
September 12, 200915 yr The damage has already been done. The food stuck in the top beak would have happened well before now, built up heat and created the issue. Dont expect to see the food still there. You now have a baby budgie that will need its bottom beak cut back about every fortnight once it leaves the nest and begins to grow. In checking baby budgies in the nest ( see my care of baby budgies in the nestbox article ) you do have to open their beaks and check for food buildup ......every day....and then these things will not happen.

About checking beaks......it takes getting one like this and knowing after how preventable it is, to make you be very sure to check inside beaks every nestbox check every day. It happened to me once so now I am paranoid about checking inside beaks.
September 13, 200915 yr Author it is a horrible way and thing to learn about  i was hoping at worst that the parents just didnt want to feed for some reason and i could of helped there so i got a shock when i realized his beak wasnt right but i will be incorperating beak checks into my routine all the time too now like you so it can be stopped from happening again i hope thank you kaz
