Posted September 12, 200915 yr I have finally got enough budgies now that i can put some pairs together for breeding. I have put 6 pairs in cabinets 2 weeks ago and one pair have 3 eggs but the other pairs have just started bonding and checking out the nestbox. Here are some pics of the pairs i have together at the moment. Lutino hen with a Yf green normal male. Cobalt normal male with a cobalt dom pied hen. Both recessive pieds. Green spangle hen with a lutino male. Cobalt dom pied male with a cobalt normal hen. Skyblue spangle hen with a skyblue dom pied male. They have 3 eggs and she never leaves the nestbox.
September 12, 200915 yr Nice to see Deb. I recognise one of the recessive pieds, but that is it. I always wonder how they are going. Keep us updated.
September 12, 200915 yr They are looking very good. All in good breeding condition from what I can see ~ Excellent!
September 12, 200915 yr Author Nice to see Deb. I recognise one of the recessive pieds, but that is it. I always wonder how they are going. Keep us updated. There are a couple of your budgies there, Dave. The cobalt normals are Romeo Jr and Mel. The green normal is Marco Polo.Gwenieve and Laurel are 2 pieds that came from you as well.
September 12, 200915 yr I forgot all about Romeo Jr and Mel - shame on me. Romeo Jr, named after his father, was trying to jump anything and everything since he was old enough. He should relish this opportunity. Very pleased Mel is there too. Marco Paulo - or polo - he is of course your bird. He was a little rescued dude that a guy caught and I went and got him. Great to see. Gwenevieve - daughter of Hugo and Angel - I remember her now. Laurel I remembered. Great to see. Keep us updated. If you have seen my thread, you will know that Earl and Latte are on their second clutch, Cino was not a good mum, and Midori is still waiting his turn.
September 12, 200915 yr the lute cock and green hen beautiful pairing the complement eachother well you have some nice birds down lovley mixes to be had good luck
September 14, 200915 yr Author One pair have 5 eggs now but the other pairs are taking their time. The hens are going in the boxes and the males are preening and feeding them but still no eggs.
September 25, 200915 yr Author My first baby hatched today, the parents are doing a great job. Even though she has 6 eggs only 3 are fertile.
September 25, 200915 yr some nice pairings there and congradulations on the baby hatching Edited September 25, 200915 yr by LILBABYBUDGIES
October 5, 200915 yr Author I ended up with 3 eggs hatching from one pair and the other pairs have not been breeding so i have changed some and hope for some success. These 3 babies come from the spangle and dom pied.
October 5, 200915 yr Author So all my old birds are duds in the nestbox? Yep, the males and females spend most of the day sitting in the nestbox but are not laying any eggs. Romeo jr is not having any luck and i thought he would been a good breeder.
October 5, 200915 yr thanks for telling me bluntly Romeo Jr has been jumping on anything he could since he was old enough to stand independantly, so that is strange. Maybe they just need some more practice.
October 5, 200915 yr Deb try wearing a fake Dave McMinn beard when tending to his "old birds" and play tape recordings of Daves voice to make them feel at home
October 5, 200915 yr Author Deb try wearing a fake Dave McMinn beard when tending to his "old birds" and play tape recordings of Daves voice to make them feel at home I will have to get Dave to send me a photo of himself and i will put it in the breeding cabinets for them. Dave can be a pin-up boy for my budgies.
October 17, 200915 yr Author Babies are growing very fast, i have been trying to work out the sex of them. I think i have 2 females and one male. The eldest, which i am guessing hen. Number 2 bub, i think another hen. She was born with plum eyes. Youngest, i think male.

Dave can be a pin-up boy for my budgies. :rofl:I do not know how I missed this before, but I would think it is safe to assume that any living creature would be turned off by your so called "pin-up" solution. If my love life is anything to go by, I am 100% correct. Good to see some success. So a: 1. Cobalt normal hen 2. Dommie pied hen 3. Dommie pied cock I am terribly at sexing. Trust Kaz more than me.What have you done with the other pairs? Returned them to the aviary? Edited October 17, 200915 yr by Dave_McMinn
October 17, 200915 yr Author I have returned the another pairs to the aviary and put in new pairs, hope i have better luck with these pairs.
October 17, 200915 yr Author So do I. I feel guilty, like I gave you some duds!!! Don't feel guilty, it was not just some of yours not interested in breeding but some of mine as well.
October 17, 200915 yr i could be wrong but this hen here looks to me to be compleate domaniant pied so mabe the prob with this pair is she is to young and you didnt know cause she is not rec pied i know that for certain or im reading what pairs are what wrong and you knew that good luck with next lot and very cute bubys Edited October 17, 200915 yr by GenericBlue

The things you are wrong about are that HE is a cock bird, and HE is the cock bird in the only pair that has been successful in producing young. Is he too young? No. GB - I am not sure what you are reading, maybe you have your threads mixed up, but Deb never said he was recessive, he is not a hen, he is old enough, and he has three young. All the other pairs were not successful.
October 17, 200915 yr Author Thanks Dave for explaining it to GB for me, Dopey is a male dominant pied that i was given and was unsure of age so i thought i would give him a try and he has ended up being a great father.
October 18, 200915 yr Author Does anyone else have any ideas of the sex of my chicks or have Dave and I guessed correctly?
