Eye Color?

Featured Replies

Hi, I have just had 3 babies hatch out in the past 48 hours. 2 under one hen and 1 under another, my question is why is it that 1 of the babies was born with red eyes and the others have got black eyes? neither pairs of parents are Lutino or Albino. There is probably an easy explination for my question but I have never bred before this is my first time. Is it possible that they could have thrown back to the Lutino or Albino?

Thanks Kaz, I thought that may have been the case but as I am knew to this I thought I would get an experts opinion  I know this will sound dumb but does this mean that the baby will be either Lutino or Albino or will it just carry the red eyes?

It will be lutino or albino. What colours and types are the parents ?

Agreed. And it will be a girl by the way. :D

I was just checking my nestboxes also and have discovered a fifth chick hatched and it too has red eyes. It will be a lutino :D

Chances are high that your red eyed baby from the recessives is lutino HOWEVER.......recessive also produce PLUM EYED babies which can be mistaken for red eyed. If its actually plum eyed it is just reinforcing the fact the baby is recessive pied, but if actually red RED it is ino. Check that topic I gave you the link to about red, plum and black eyes.

I have been breeding budgies since 2004.
