Posted September 8, 200915 yr in one box i had 3 (newly hatched) babies and the babies got squashed and in another one baby died and yesterday i took that babies 2 sibblings (3 weeks old) out to clean out the box and the mother attacked on of them when i placed them back in the box so my nieghbor offered to raise them so i gave them to her and they are doing good and the wond stoped bleeding. any tips on how to aviod both acedents
September 8, 200915 yr i dont think it is a good idea to put back in any chicks or eggs in the nest while the hen is there as she will feel threatened by them and your hand and have an excuse to kill them.....sometimes the hens are just really agressive and you cant do anything about it

She may have also been trying to start another clutch. The three newly hatched chicks you said were squashed.........all dead chicks look flattened and squashed when they are dead but it doesnt mean they died from being squashed at all. Chances are they were either not fed or not kept warm through the night. Edited September 8, 200915 yr by KAZ
September 8, 200915 yr If you get anymore little ones die at 1 to 2 days old it could be yellow belly, we had the problem here, quite a few of our club members have had it this year. Treatment is a broad spectrum antibiotic, treating all birds.
