September 1, 200816 yr Author This budgie is a DF dominant pied. You can tell this by its mostly white colour ( in this case white because its a blue series bird ), wings are mostly clear. DF Dom pieds have very little colour apart froma concentrated splash of colour over their rump area. They have a sprinkling of wing paterning...very little most often. They have a kind of barring look around the head area very reminiscent of a recessive pied look, but incorperating a patch at the back of their head. Cockbirds who are DF dom pieds most often carry two colours on their cere...mostly pink with a hint of blue. DF Dompieds quite often have one iris ring on one eye and not on the other. Any other comments welcome.
September 1, 200816 yr Hmmmm, Having problems with this one. Maybe if you post a Rec Pied along side and do a comparative analysis.
September 1, 200816 yr Author Here is an interesting couple of photos to show the iris ring thing with DF dom pieds. Both photos taken from the same bird Left eye right eye Hmmmm, Having problems with this one. Maybe if you post a Rec Pied along side and do a comparative analysis. For Renee..........DF dom pied on the left, recessive on the right Edited September 1, 200816 yr by KAZ
September 1, 200816 yr Well, well, well ... whadyaknow. I have a couple of DF Dom Pieds :hap: (previously identified as Rec P :hap: ) One of the pairings that Gary looked horrified at (LOL): Magik's parents are both Dom Pieds and in both rounds they produced 1 DF. Currently on their third round and 4 chicks hatched out of 9 fertile eggs, chicks distributed to fosters and today fertile eggs moved to foster on clear eggs.
September 1, 200816 yr This was a great idea Kaz, even though I was too chicken to try answering what kinds of pieds they were The resulting discussion is interesting too. I am curious to know what number 15 is please?
September 1, 200816 yr Author This was a great idea Kaz, even though I was too chicken to try answering what kinds of pieds they were :PThe resulting discussion is interesting too. I am curious to know what number 15 is please?Number 15 is an opaline dominant pied and also greywing I believe........although dilute could also be a possibility.
September 2, 200816 yr renee post your birds you are talking about, it can help others. Calico Not very good pics I'm afraid .... still working on it. But here goes: Magik's parents: 2 Dominant Pieds - Dad Mum - Looking a bit worse for wear Magik's brothers: Dom Pied Grey Green 2nd hatched, the photo does him no favours Opaline Grey 3rd hatched, Dad attacked him ... Double Factor Dominant Pied 4th Hatched .... sooooo much smaller than the others
September 2, 200816 yr Thanks for posting Renee. Was the grey okay after dad attacked him? And thanks for the reply Kaz. I think #15 is really pretty
September 2, 200816 yr Looks like one dom pied parent Renee (can't see evidence of it on the mother) Baby1 is a dom pied, baby2 is an opaline and baby3 is a single factor dom pied

September 2, 200816 yr Looks like one dom pied parent Renee (can't see evidence of it on the mother) Baby1 is a dom pied, baby2 is an opaline and baby3 is a single factor dom pied No Mum is definitely Dom Pied, I shall post a better photo of her tomorrow.
September 2, 200816 yr Mum - Looking a bit worse for wear I can see some Pied on the edge of her wing. Edited September 2, 200816 yr by **Liv** fixed quote
September 2, 200816 yr Author Mum - Looking a bit worse for wear I can see some Pied on the edge of her wing. You can also see the flights are white in this photo.
September 3, 200816 yr odd, i see no head patch and no body pied markings... but i guess seeing clearflights at the back will help Either way chicks are still SF I love that picture though, she looks as though she wants to break out of jail hehe
September 3, 200816 yr Better photo needed Renee Indeed! Mum and Dad Magik's Mum Baby Number 4 Why Oh Why is he a Single Factor Dom Pied. He has Recesive like markings!!! Surely he is a Double Factor?! Edited September 3, 200816 yr by renee
September 3, 200816 yr I think that what you have is a dominant pied cock mated to a clearflight pied hen. The chicks won't be double factor dominants. From this mating you'd expect about 25% combination dominant pied & clearflight pied, 25% dominant pied, 25% clearflight pied and 25% normals. This would account for Magik looking different
September 3, 200816 yr Author You can also see the flights are white in this photo. I knew I saw the white flights
