Posted September 1, 200915 yr Hey all. I need some advice. Since my last budgie passed away a few years ago, there's been something missing, y'know? I've decided it's time to get a new buddy, but after reading some of the recommendations on this board, I've come to realise there's so much more I can do for my partner. What I want to know is, what should I get to start off with? Like, cage toys, recommended foodstuffs, anything else I should put in the cage, things I should do when bringing them home, etc. Just some general advice to get me started. I read the guides on cages, and have found one suitable - it's a big rectangular cage, with a flat roof. Perches can be set front to back, so my buddy can fly around in there. Just not sure what else to get to start off with.
September 1, 200915 yr Hi and welcome Captain Heff, great that you are researching a bit first. You've got the right idea about the cage and perches. Toys ? They like those linked rings, wooden ladders, pretend budgies that loop over a perch and bob back and forth. Little plastic lattice style balls with bells in. No mirrors or other shiny objects they can fall in LUST with  No sandppaper sheets for the bottom of the cage and no sandpaper perches. No grit. Good quality seed blend, fresh fruit and vegies, corn silverbeet, grated carrot, grated raw beetroot, etc Our FAQ section has advice for bringing home a new budgie and much much more here.... http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/ We have members on here who mnay be able to help you select your new friend.........PM Daz and Dr Nat in case they have a baby budgie available.
