 Will do Richo !!

Congratulations! Call me crazy but looking at your pics I do kind of miss that new chickee smell...

that's great news just remember when they are around two and half weeks to clean out inside of their beak for stuck food if any so their beak can form properly be careful though as they are soft don't forget to check bottom a lot of people clean top but not bottom check them dayly for this from three weeks on  going well

I'm thinking that chick no 1 is the only one with any dark pigment on the skin ( soory bad picture, but I mean up near her eyes...you can just notice it)....so that one may be pied???, the other two at this stage seem to be all one colour?

Any thoughts from the guru's?? !! :D

Or....can you get split for opaline birds?

Maybe mum or dad's parents were split for that?

Or....can you get split for opaline birds?

im no guru but ,,, only dad could be split opaline

as mum is opaline to get a opaline chick he must be split

if you have a dom chick you will see a patch on head

thats pink in colour or white compared to rest of babys skin colour

if a rec pied one the wings skin colour will have spasmatic darker marks here and their about now so you will be able to tell

all chick cocks will be split to cinnamon and if dad is split opaline cock or hens could be opaline

any that arnt cock wize will be split opaline and cinnamon

not a world of help but a bit :)

Austin - DEC cock

Copy2of220309032.jpg?t=1251633399

And Cindy Dom pied hen - not sure if she is split recessive witch is what I need for more DEC's but my first few breeding pairs will be a learning curve for me...I did get a split recessive in my last purchase of birds but she is in quarantine for a while and these 2 seemed to have paired up in the avairy so I will see how it goes...

well looks like mum and dad must be split blue as you have a white feathered friend or is it light yellow feathers hard to tell from picture but i also think it is your dec you were after looks cock too

next time you take pics take picture of buby with wing out so i can see closer

also the to yellow wing ones i want to see them face on and from back of head with neck and top cap if pos i will try help you see what you got

im thinking the yellow on the bottom rights looking like it had dark markings comming close to shoulders but as i said i cant tell so hold its little wing out too

it may be a dom i think if this the case nd pos yf

and the yellow to the left of it might be one too ?

I think so Kaz,... but I thought that you had to pair a DEC with recessive to get DEC, so I wasn't expecting any in this lot......but who knows what the hen is split for? ...the trouble when you don't know the parents of mum and dad I guess... :D

What are you seeing G_B....when they are so young what do you look for to know if recessive or dominant?

Thanks G_B...

yes but in terms for a new breeder

dark skin spots in small ,patches before feathers

the fact it does not have a spot on head size of 5 cent peaice but has dark frontal

you will be looking for colour change in feather stem pigment as its feathers come up things like that

if you post more pics i will write what im viewing and explain how i come to my decision next time if you like

  • Author

That would be fantastic G_B...really interested in learning what your looking at....

I will take some more pictures and post this afternoon.

Thanks for taking the time to explain.... :D

thats fine

theirs lots of early signs you can look for with a baby to tell colour, mutation, sex

i dont mind helping if no one had of helped me i would still be asking as you are

ps :D to any one with the power

I'm thinking.......

No 1 Dominant pied - because I can see colour feathers in the wings? Cock?

No 2 DEC - All white black eyes? Hen?

No 3 - Recessive pied all yellow with just a dark skin mark on it's head? Cock?

:)
