Hi guys and gals,

i am a new budgie owner and i have a question for you all, my budgie seems to be going red/pink in the face, his main colour is a light blue and white. when i first got him a week ago he was white in the face but over the days he seems to be getting pinker mainly above his cere and cheeks. i have had experience mainly with lookiing after macaws and i know they blush and go pink in the face but i dont think that budgies can. so that is my question to you all and hopefully someone can shed some light on why my budgie is turning pink. thanks in advance jade.

lol, i cant beleive i did not think of that gosh thankyou for enlightning me. another question is that he seems really hypo and i mean really hypo, i have been doing just finger training and getting him used to his new surroundings(18 month old child and other animals) but he seems to be going up and down his cage doing lilttle backflips and all, would this just be beacause he is new or would it be something else. like i said before i am used to bigger birds so sorry in advance if i sound i bit dumb.

Hmm, maybe red food dye has the same effect on budgies as small children making them hyperactive. LOL.

Can also be about cage size. Birds bought from larger places such as aviary space and into smaller cages often do this.

Also to let you know, when I have got a new bird in a small cage they either act in one of two ways. THey either go hypo or they get culture shock and sit and sit and sit in one corner. Consider yourself lucky if you got one of the 'hypo' ones.

I just wanted to tell you not to worry, it's not just you that worries about mysterious colour changing budgies. When I had my first budgie I freaked out after coming home and finding him covered in "blood." I'd forgotton I'd given him a raspberry before I went out. Another time I thought one of the budgies had some sort of weird beak infection, but it turned out to be silverbeet. Some of these things seem so obvious once you know what's going on, but sometimes it takes a little while to get used to looking after a new type of animal.
