HELLO,

 

it would be good if i knew if i could feed my budgies corn straight of the cob :bow: ???????? if so is there any specific type to feed them???????

I feed my birds an entire corn cob in the aviary, and they love it, especially chewing off the corn and eating it.

I don't know about specific types though.

They love corn, I just feed it to mine on the cob :bow:

Of course you can feed corn......straight off the cob, frozen corn defrosted. Try not to use canned corn as it has added salt and sugar.

I agree, corn is perfectly safe. They love it fresh off the cob the best! Yum!!

Yes, they adore corn. It is very nutritious. You get all YF birds after they have had a good gnaw on a cob.Just a thought: Is it all right to give them popcorn you have popped yourself with no butter, sugar or salt?

Thanks will feed them some tomorow as i normaly give them carrot and they go nuts over it and there feathers are orangey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Budgies love fresh corn, or thawed frozen corn.

Of course make sure any wet/moist food you give them is fresh and does not remain in the cage too long, especially in the warmer weather, otherwise it goes off with growing bacteria/moulds and can make them sick.

Canned corn usually has a lot of salt and is therfor not good for them. I try and give my fresh corn on the cob, or frozen.

i wouldnt mind giving my budgies corn and carrot.... the problem is which i am very annoyed about is that they wont eat it!! :emoticon112: i mean, how else am i meant to give them nutritious meals

Grate the carrot on to a large flat plate, finesliced some spinach/silver beet, mix through, mash a boiled egg and mix through, add the corn and sprinkle birdseed over it. They will eat it. Feed early morning or at 4 pmish .....their natural feeding times.

I give a similar mixture (except not corn every day). I used to give it first thing in the morning, but I find they "dig in" much better after they've had their afternoon airing and come back to the cage. It's different for you aviary folks, but mine like to come back to something yummy in the cage after flying around like maniacs.

My birds would not eat carrot until I partly cooked it. Now, they love it.

I put multiple corn cobs on individual metal BBQ skewers and attach them to the side of the cage, sitting the corn end over a branch. They love it.

 

Tip to the wise, be careful with the skewers. I did not think the other day, and slammed the corn onto the cob, as it refused to go. It went on. The skewer proceeded through the corn, through my hand, and although it did not pass out the other side, it was tenting my skin - think pole under the big top at the circus.

Going up to the show tday we were talking

about corn,there was 5 of us in the 2 fed cobs

& 3 fed cobs & tins of cob,so I guess the tins

of corn are okay,I will be trying it as it work out

easyer to feed to the prs in the breeding cage.

& to put in the blender. :sad:

why i asked about the canned corn is because i have tried and tried corn on the cob and whole carrots for 12 months on and off and my birds will not touch it and i gave up just wont have anything in full at all

so all my vegies are blended up fresh every day all in together today they got pak choy silverbeet celery capsicum parsley carrot bread eggs egg and biscuit packet mix and bit of garlic all blended together takes a bit of time every day but they clean it up so guess i will have to miss the corn thought it would be lovely to see them eating it like in other members pictures

i think im going to try the canned one then makka they might go for smaller bits hopefully

Better frozen corn defrosted than tinned...........canned corn has salt and sugar added............read the sides of the can.

:sad: yes your right forgot about salt and sugar not good for birds
