Posted August 26, 200915 yr Toshiro The Gaurdian Angel I have not been on the forum for about 3 or 4 days now and this is because Kiwi my 10month old hen became egg bound and I asumed the worst I used all of the tips a guide line off the forums to help assist her but I was too late. Not of what I did worked I became very depressed I hoped that nature would not take her. I had many sleepless nights. But I kept checking in on her and I noticed Toshiro the hen who was in with her was helping her, she fed her and lay on her to keep her warm then I saw something I was'nt really sure what it was but Toshiro was rubbing and preening Kiwi's vent. While Kiwi strained and the day after Kiwi delivered the egg. So I look at Toshiro as her Angel now. I don't know what I would do if I'd lost her.
August 27, 200915 yr Author wo what a story of devotion. How beautiful of Toshiro to do that. is Kiwi okay? She's fine as of now, I'm still monitoring her regularly and I have soft egg food mix to build up her strenght and plenty of calcuim enrichment in her cage. And she looks almost normal now, back to orignal behaviour.
August 27, 200915 yr thats very good to hear. was it an accidental egg? she sounds too young to be breeding?
August 27, 200915 yr Author thats very good to hear. was it an accidental egg? she sounds too young to be breeding? She just lays eggs sometimes and has done since she was three months. She has no males in with her on nesting places/boxes, so I don't really know a reason that would make her want to breed.
August 28, 200915 yr Author I'll keep you all updated, Today she was fiesty trying to bite me while I filled the seed dish up...Toshiro is being sort of motherly to Kiwi at the moment, she follows her around and watches her, is that normal? Also I'd like to clean out the cage would it be to risky for stress or not?? it's been about 5 or 6 days since Kiwi became egg bound.
