Gettin' Organised

Featured Replies

hey guys!

well, i wonted to start this topic as i am hoping to soon by the end of the year be breeding for show etc. and have an organised colony  i found it to be a good idea to have this as a topic as you guys can teach me along the way.... nothing much with sorting cabinets will happen till late september, where ill be getting some cabiinets and be having the pleasure of meeting kaz sometime inthe next two or three months to help me with my birds :) i am also looking forward to getting a few good show birds as well to start a good-quality stock.

the first i have done, to start of is: removed all breeding boxes from avairy.

this is one of the best decisions i have made so far. at leat 6 chicks have died from this mess and it aint going to happen again. the avairy is now something like a holding cage etc. its 3.24m long x 1.18 wide x 1.9m high. also a smaller cage, about 1.2 m long an 0.9 high is something some of you guys call a "kindy cage" :)

its all going good :)

P.S do any of you guys know whats the limit of birds i can have in the larger avairy i mentioned above?

That's fantastic~Congratulations!

Now the next best thing you can do is join one of the Budgie Clubs here in WA, your options are:

Bassendean: The Metropolitan Budgie Club, meets every 3rd Saturday of every month

www.metropolitanbudgerigarclub.com.au

Girrawheen: The Rare Budgie Club, meets every 1st Sunday of every month

Mandurah: The South-West Budgie Club, meets every 2nd Sunday of every month

You can PM me for further details. :)

Re your aviary, I'm no expert but I think you could safely keep 40 budgies in there.

Thanks Renee  Club info hs already been discussed behind scenes. Cutespangledbub is young and has to rely on parents driving her to club meetings so it may not happen for awhile. I am happy to take her to the swbc auction if her parents agree to it.

Re the aviary, you can fit around 100 in there but must have lots of different perching setups and feeding areas.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woohoo! YOur going great! even if nothing much has happened. Can't wait to hear how it all goes.

Hey I understand about the club thingo. It's a real pain having to reley on parents. Oh well.............

Good Luck

Very good decision C.S.B... :emoticon112:

Looking forward to pics on your new "set up"

wow! thanks everyone for your encouragement!

i think im going to be going for the mandurah southwest club. its easier for us, we are used to driiving down south etc. if i am able to go there on sep 20th for annual budgie auction, ill see if i can join while im there :) if not i will see what happens. ( is there a junior membership there?)

today i tried to put new perches inside the avairy where the nests used to be.... i failed with the saw, tryiing to cut the perches so i gave up and decided to wait for dad to come home :)

with the kindy cage, i forgot to add how a pied and Boofy are finishing off theyre nest in there and once the last baby is out and theyre all able to fend for them selves the parents and nest is going out.... thats the story from today.

P.S 100 birds???? :what: :emoticon112:

P.P.S tommorow i will take pictures of cage setup to show you guys whats going on and how i can improve cage standards

Good for you!

Check out the birds I'm selling - they are my foundation cock birds from WA's top breeders and are super garanteed egg fillers and more to the point, they shouldn't go too expensive

Nope, 5 cock birds: a DF Yellow Spangle (Fran Mcloughlin), an Opaline Light Green (Norm Wheatley), a Normal Violet(Cec Gearing), a Normal Cobalt (Jeff Lloyd) and an Opaline Sky Blue (Carl Alder). They are all still young birds, the Opaline LG is the eldest at 4 years and he was one of the first birds I bought at a MBC auction, I think.

yesterday i caught pied and boofy out of the kindie cage and put them in the avairy.. now there are only babies in the "kindy" cage

for the babies they might want to hide so i put a box with some hay inside and seeds to be pecky

i had a sudden thought or brainwave :) i was wondering what else can i put on the floor of my avairy. In renees topic on her new one, i saw how she put sand at the bottom. if i were to do sand, how do i maintain it? is there any thing else that is better thaan normal concrete? alot of bacteria seems to grow on it :(

What I love about the sand is that I just rake it lightly once a week and that's it! Also it's a good source of grit.

I used to have sand, however with my old aviary water used to run from under our patio into it and it turned to sludge :) poopy sludge! Now with how the aviary has changed it would probably work well for me, so in the coming new year i plan to try it again (after up and coming aviary re-construction) :(

I say go for it! by the way your aviary is gorgeous! :)
