February 2, 201015 yr I now have lots of clearwings and few others looking for a new home though. Oh no does that mean we have to look out for a post in the sale section now...!?!?!?
February 15, 201015 yr Author Here is an update from the G&G stud. We are on our last round - we only have 12 of the 24 cabinets still in circulation with one or two more to come off line this week. Still very happy with what is coming out of the breeding program. The third round of my beautiful normal light green x normal dark green gave me 2 more dark greens, making 5 in total most of which look to have the same style as their 10th place Nats dad. I was hoping this normal light green cock and his brother would found/continue my normal/normal line after purchasing a bird I was assured was normal/normal but alas (after 3 years mind you) out has popped opalines AND worst of all cinnamon - not what I wanted..... Here are 2 of his latest chickies. Have managed to breed about 9 dominant pieds (not that they are a variety I'll be concentrating on - but I'll use them as normals) and this little guy is showing some promise. I though someone had given him a nip on the cere but after a couple of weeks of it remaining the same I think it actually might be the pied out cere effect. This little fellow is a really substantial little thing with the widest head on it. It's size is slightly unexpected as it's siblings are not quite that size. Last but not least is this really nice little cinnamon opaline sky hen. She harks back to my very first nationals rep and looks like she might hold promise too. Here are some familar faces from previous posts. THEN: NOW: THEN: NOW: THEN: NOW: THEN: NOW: I was hoping that Holy S*%t might strut his stuff at the state show but it was touch and go really as he is not QUITE fully moulted out yet. Still he came up presentably after a bucket wash on the weekend. But I walked into the aviary this afternoon only to see that he'd dropped both tail feathers - bummer. His brother Holy Cr*p is nowhere near moulted out and although I'm sure he'll eventaully be the better bird, looks terrible right now. Nicely though I have a couple more brothers and 1 sister from the same pairing also looking pretty nice, plus 2 more hatchees from the pairs last round. Edited February 15, 201015 yr by nubbly5
February 15, 201015 yr Wow... Some great looking birds coming out of your breeding this year Nubbly... The hard work you have put in shows... :raincloud:
February 15, 201015 yr thanks for the before and afters i think i may keep a few chicks a tad longer now :raincloud: i may need to build another flight thats all
February 15, 201015 yr Looking fantastic Nubbly..............you will have a good showing getting into the nationals the way your birds have been of late :laughter: and as you normally do. I know what you mean about tails. Some of my best ones ready for Sundays show dropped tails too :raincloud:
February 15, 201015 yr Author I'm skipping these Nats, Kaz. I won't have any birds at the selections and I personally will be in France & Germany having some long service leave - wheee hah! Floating around the canals in a self drive canal cruizer! Like I said before I'll be thinking of you guys - not :raincloud: Anyways all these little guys are 2010 rings - the ring change could not have been better for us really. I bred very few 2009 ringers and most of those were BES & clearwings so am more than happy to skip this year and pick it back up again next year! It's a bit of a long wait though!

February 28, 201015 yr Author Well the G&G 2009/2010 breeding season is coming to a close. We have just 6 of the 24 cabinets still in play with the final babies mostly coming out of the nests (bar one nest of hatchees). I snapped pis of some of the promising ones from this batch. I have a large number of normal greens and dark greens from this years breeding season (I'm very happy about that!) and this little guy is lovely too. I have one more normal light green just about ready to go into the nappy cage too - maybe my normal/normal program didn't take quite such a hit as I thought...... 2 of the last pieds - all cuties. I would like more size on them overall but the green above is from a pied pairing so there is obviously some size tucked away in the genes somewhere! This girl has a stack of potential and is actually the full sister to my grey boy who got a commended at the recent WABC young bird derby. Their parents have produced a full 3 rounds of really lovely chicks with the potential to grow on and produce great feather. This is the boy. Still looking shmick from show prep (nubbly's secret "how to get your birds looking fabulous!" weapon). And this is what he looked like just out of the nest - a blind monkey could see he had good potential!!!!! And this is partly where his potential came from - his Daddy. I love this bird apart from his tendency to slump on the perch (the lazy so and so). The hen I chose for him is really strong and stands well off the perch. I did this in the attempt to correct the slouchy posture of the cock bird. Not sure how successful I was there as the young fellow above I noticed having a good old slack attack during the show - obviously not enough to put him out of the top 5 though. Well, that's all for now and probably only one more photo update before it's all over until September again.
February 28, 201015 yr Great looking birds. One day I hope to get to where you are. Well done and thanks for sharing with us!!!!
February 28, 201015 yr wow all nice birds there love that normal grey at the end how many babys did you breed this round ??
February 28, 201015 yr your birds are so lovley i especially like the little hen and your comment about the blind monkey
March 1, 201015 yr Author Thanks to everyone for your kind comments about my birds. It's been fun sharing and seeing all your birds too. Shannon I'll end up with 180 from this season. Normally I buy 150 rings and just about get through them but this year I had to order another 30 and i've got 7 left and one nest still to ring. They have 4 babies at the moment and 4 good eggs still. We'll see how that goes fingers crossed. GB I love the little hen too. I had a cin op sky hen 2002 ring that won the SWBC young hens champ from Novice grade, beating some impressive open hens. I called her Superbudgie and this little lady reminds me very much of her. Hopefully she'll be better though .
March 11, 201015 yr Author Well I went a bit nuts a took pics of all the greens I bred so I thought I might over a period of time post up pics of all the different birds in different varieities - I might not get them all done before the big holiday though but I'll see how we go. I normally take pics of those birds that catch my eye but that is by no means a complete guide as to the quality of all my birds. So for the exercise AND so that I keep myself honest and not join the egohead brigade :fingerscrossed: here goes, a warts and all look at my normal green selection for this year. Obviously some are moulted, some ar moulting and some are still in nest feather - also some were going a bit nuts in the cage...... And just pointing out that for some reason almost ALL my normal greens this year are cocks. The only hen is a dumpy little split fallow thing..... sigh. And what's happened to spewbucket????? It's actually been working without a hitch even uploading mutliple files whilst we are shaped..... not that I'm complaining :cake:.
March 11, 201015 yr Author Thank JB you are too kind but remember that these are my normal greens and there are definitely a few in there that won't be staying on! The other varieties are probabaly a different story quality wise too. Okay so here are the Lacewings. As much as the normal greens are just about all boys, the lacewings bar a couple are all girls - what's with that! At least I can use a whole heap of normal greens over lacewing hens next season..... March 11, 201015 yr This gets my vote for the next BOM! I'm a huge fan of lacewings so I guess I'm biased but seriously great looking picture.
March 12, 201015 yr Nubbyly i'm in love with your lacewings their beautiful,i wished i lived in W.A so i could check out your's and Kaz's birds.
March 12, 201015 yr just curious, what causes the Cinnamon above the cere... I've never noticed this on other Lacewings, and I can't see it on the Yellow Lacewings of yours...
March 12, 201015 yr just curious, what causes the Cinnamon above the cere... I've never noticed this on other Lacewings, and I can't see it on the Yellow Lacewings of yours... Not cinnamon JB.......staining from breathing. Can be respiratory issue.
March 12, 201015 yr Author In this case generally called DIRT! You can see from the grey I prepped for show that once they are nicely spruced up there is no more dirty stained look. If you look carefully you can see some staining on some of the yellow lacewings too. It's especially prevelent on those birds that seem to relish fresh corn on the cob. I don't know what they do on it but they usually end up with grubby faces and masks. Usually when they moult out it all looks nice and fresh for a while and then they get all grubby again (unless they get a wash!). Sometimes though the staining can indicate respiratory disease or even airsac mites but in this case it's just filthy grubby budgies. Edited March 12, 201015 yr by nubbly5
