August 20, 200915 yr OUCH! I have had that happen too.. not to that degree, but have had birds get hung by the ring. Not nice and the leg looks bad to me Shannon. I would get it to the vet as there may be dislocation or breaks that need tending to. Your cock bird is out of condition... i am not sure what else you are asking about with him??
August 20, 200915 yr Bummer Shannon! Fit it's not broken it'll heal okay with TLC and time - if it's broken............ vet or............. The cock bird is typically out of condition but starting to have the brown cere appearance of a cock with what has been decribed to me as a hormone imbalance. I have been told that cocks with brown coloured ceres are not fertile - dunno if this is correct 100% of the time though as I have one cock that always has a cere like the one you picture but has a good sperm sample (not checked for actual swimmers mind you) although I have not yet used him for breeding so don't really know.......
August 20, 200915 yr Author she can not move it it is not as blood now do i neet to cut the ring ?? if so how Edited August 20, 200915 yr by shannon bird breeder
August 20, 200915 yr does it look broken? is the ring getting in the road or what is happening with that?
August 20, 200915 yr The leg will swell and the ring will constrict the bloodflow. Use some cutters to remove the ring now as its a lot harder when the leg has swollen around the ring. Cut the ring in half so it comes away in 2 half circles. Its made with aluminum so can be cut with small sharp wire cutters or proper ring cutters. Personally i would get her to a breeder who has done it before and get them to show you. If you slip you will cut the chicks leg badly... The angle of the leg in that picture doesnt look good. the knee looks out, possibly even the hip. The fact she cant move the leg says she is in a lot of pain.... take her to the vet and get some pain medication  Edited August 20, 200915 yr by **Liv**
August 20, 200915 yr Shannon I would say she has either broken foot or leg. She does need the vet, even if he says she must be euthenased.
August 20, 200915 yr Author okay i will take her to the vet to tomorrow i will have to go there about 12:30
August 20, 200915 yr That is one of the hard things about breeding budgies. Even with the best of facilities sometimes the little buggers still manage to get themselves into a pickle. Sometimes in ways I've not even been able to imagine......... Hopefully the leg isn't broken but by the looks of it AND if she's not moving it - I'd say it is.
August 21, 200915 yr Author she is okay we got the ring off and it was broken so we cut the leg of she lost a lot of blood but she is sill okay wan i left i am going back tomorrow to see how she is doing i am hopeing she makes it through the night
August 22, 200915 yr Author guess what ??? she is home and all rite i got to live her in the house for a week than i can put her out in the aviary i am so happy
August 22, 200915 yr im glad she is shannon i love that you did take her to vet i knew she would be fine ,but didnt want to get your hopes up my boy broke a leg and the leg died and came out the skin vet was not open and i needed to surgically remove the leg myself the vet said when i got him their a day later that if i hadnt have done that he would be dead from blood poisioning vets are great with removing leg bones and stuff my boy was flying in a few days and as you said a week inside hes still happy just needs extra care with things like cleaning his eyes as he cant do it himself with one leg ps i do not recommend anyone taking this kind of thing into their own hands i have had experiance with hurt and injered animals so knew what i was doing and had the right sterile equipment their is a particular way to amputate a broken leg thats dead if the leg was not dead i would not have gone to that extream
August 22, 200915 yr Author thank's liv and gb i will see if i can get on tomorrow for you liv but i got told to not annoy her gb i am geting a pair of ring cut now and heps more thins that thay show'd me becos i can not get her to the they straight way
August 29, 200915 yr Oh little treasure .......Good on you Shannon for taking her to the vet and getting it amputated, will she be able to do most things Shannon? Do they adapt to having one leg?
