Swapping Partners = Trouble!

I tried swapping 2 pairs over yesterday as they have been together for around 6 weeks with no results. All was good for a day or so but yesterday arvo I found 1 pair fighting on the floor of their cage. One of the males had actually pinned his new partner to the floor and was getting stuck right in. So I immediately put the cocks back with their original partners and all is good again. Upon reintroducing the fighting cock to his original partner, the hen immediately bowed to him but he just sat there as useless as before and just looked at her. My question...is this fighting normal behaviour for a cock? I would think it is more typical of the hen to behave like this. How can I get this cock to be more responsive to the hen? They are bonded as they preen each other all the time. He is just useless in bed. LOL!

How old is the cock ? Is his cere showing in condition ?

Photos please ?

Cock is around 12 months old and cere is blue. I won't be able to take pics until the weekend I'm afraid.

To swap partners you should seperate them for at least a week for example put them in out in the aviary to vitalise them and then try again. I have hens in one avairy and cocks in the other.

Good idea. Thanks for the suggestion.
