I have found out that 1 of my dirds has scaley face which I am getting ivermectin tomorrow I hope .

Where do the mites come from and can I prevent them from coming back ? .

I want to make sure that all the birds in my aviary are treated and there is no chance of it coming back.

I am not sure you can do much to prevent it. Just be mindful and treat the birds when they first show signs by putting a drop of ivermectin on the back of their head.

Eucalyptus is meant to aid in the prevention of mites... Fresh branches and leaves. The birds bath on them/eat them and the mites prefer not to climb on them.. I beleive it's due to the eucalyptus oil???

If you treat all birds with Ivermectin at the same time and then again in 3 weeks time you should be able to erradicate the mite. It will generally then come back in on a new budgie.

I will let you know Dave how I get on at your vet as the local here wanted to see the bird first and I would say he would addminister it .
