Decided To Colony Breed Some Of The Flock

Hi all sitting here in my aviary and seeing the birds getting randy :D thought id allow them to colony breed keep them happy so got some boxes and was going to put them in when the "Boss" :) u men know who the Boss is lol.

Well she says your not putting plain old boxes in the aviary they need to know which is theres' and if they are all the same they will get confused Darn woman :o lol .So here are some pics of the birds new Houses her words not mine lol :D

Well I like the look of your birds! :D

 

And the boss is correct, when you aviary breed many times one or two nest boxes is coveted by many hens so fights break out and all *** lets loose .... you may lose a bird or two, you are much more likely to have fertile eggs chucked out by competing hens or hens preventing the mother to feed her chicks ... and then the dead chicks get chucked out too. :(

 

While the 'houses' you have made are delightful if you are to stand any chance of diminished bloodshed you should have double the amount of breeding nest boxes available per pair of breeding birds and they should be at the same height if possible.

Thats the first lot of boxes have to wait o0n the Boss to finich the rest will have 15 boxes when she has finished them and yes i do know about loses and fights will keep my eyes on any trouble makers
