Squatters take up homes created by other creatures. I am a fairly small creature.

Pearce, hermit crab is the right answer. They use snail shells. If a hermit crab feels the need, it will evict another hermit crab from the shell it is using (after a struggle, of course).

The animal i am thinking of feeds mainly off plants, by puncturing and then sucking up the contents. roughly 1-5 mm long. They carry diseases from plant to plant.

 

Once a plant has been attacked by this animal their is white/bronze scarring left behind.
