Billy And Grace

Featured Replies

Finally.....after 2.5 weeks we have 1 egg!! :D

Billy is green opaline and Grace is normal grey, I know that green is dominant so the most likely outcome will be green chicks, unless either is split for blue?

If this clutch goes well and I end up with non green chicks will I be able to tell which parent is split for what? :D

I mean, say I get a blue normal chick, that would mean that Grace is split for blue not Billy?

Hope that makes sense ...

Congratulations on your egg. I'm not an expert but I think from this pair you will get opaline hens and normal boys split to opaline and they should all be greygreen, unless Billy is split for blue. Grace can't be split for blue because she is blue, grey counts as one of the blue colours. So if you get any blue or grey chicks that would mean Billy is split for blue.

An update on my pet types...

She laid 6 eggs but 1 was cracked on the bottom of the cage so I disposed of that one. ;)

If my calculations are correct the first should hatch around the 2nd of September.. :P

I am looking forward to seeing what I get, and learning some background mutations of my birds...

1 week to go !!!

Well she tossed out another egg today, it was very light...felt empty.

I was going to dispose of it anyway as it was dented, so I opened it....it had like a small amount of like egg yolk in a skin....?

So there are 4 eggs left, I think my calculations were a bit off when I posted last time, I'd say if the 2 eggs that she has tossed out are not the first ones laid she should have a chick any hour now, as the first egg was laid on the 12/08/09.

Thanks Pearce and M6B,

Well ckick number 1 was hatched sometime last night, checked the box around 7am and we have 1 chick, I was a bit concerned as it had no food in it's crop, I checked again about half an hour ago and I think now she looks fine......

I have misplaced the artical Kaz wrote on Looking after chicks in the nest, if someone has it or knows where the link is, can they please post it for me? :)

Well it's a dark and dreary, raining morning in Brisbane... :yellowhead:

Just went out with a torch and pulled the clear plastic over the side of the avairy that will get wet in the rain to keep it nice and dry....

We still only have 1 chick, I rolled it over very gently and it looks to have food in its crop, will check again this afternoon when I get home from work...

So far so good....

whoa really excitede for you anne! COngratulations!

Thanks C_S_B

I still have 1 baby....I checked it out this afternoon and it's going really well....2 of the other eggs are very light so I'd say they are empty, the other one is much heavier so I guess it's a waiting game... :)

Your little chick looks good in the pictures, I hope everything goes well for you.

Anne, I was just wondering, do you have any bedding in that nest? it appears not from the pictures. Porridge oats are good.

M6B....When I took the picture, no there wasn't, I have since put in some of that recycled paper kitty litter (Dr Harry brand), I have read on here about the oat's , if that's good I will get some tomorrow.

Update.....she tossed out another egg today... :( , So still only 1 baby and now only 2 other eggs, one is very light.......

The egg looks too dark which indicates a dead in shell chick. At least you have one fat baby :)

Thank you Kaz, I thought so from another recent forum post on "egg colors"....should I dispose of it or wait till she tosses it out?

In total she laid 6 eggs and a few seemed to be this colour...what would have caused them to die? When I changed the bedding yesterday, the egg was quite warm.....I think this is her first clutch..

Thanks in advance

Well...out of 6 eggs we have 1 baby....it now is white down with what seems to be greyish feathers coming through....did I read somewhere that white down means an opaline?

Will get a picture as soon as I can.....
