Two For Sexing

Featured Replies

Hi, took advantage of their first attempt at perching, to get macros of the two eldest. There were guesses in another thread, hopefully these pics are a little more clear.

Their one-month birthday is tomorrow, 8/12!

Nibbler = green

Simon = blue

The white around the nostrils of both say "female" to me. I'll call it as both girls.

This is what I thought, too, before I looked at people's responses. I thought the white around the nostrils looked more like reflection from the window or flash. I only know how to tell the difference based on Kaz's teachings, so I thought Kaz was going to say "we need a better picture with no flash" or something to that effect. ;)

No offence but some one that has a hand full of budgie,are question a breeder of budgie,for more years

then you have budgies,if you don't want the opinion of people,with many years of breeding,wait till the budgies are much older& it is ovious what sex they are. :P:D;)

Thanks for all the responses, nothing to do but keep trying for a better picture! lol

I guess like most first-timers I'm a little anxious :-D

FYI, no flash used, just macro setting— which may be more sensitive to the slightest baby budgie head movement.

However; They are adorable!

Aren't they all though! ;)

Just for comparison....... What do you think this bird is? Very purple cere but if you look carefully white around the nostrils.

A few months later the same bird and it's definitely a hen.

How lovely, she looks to be wearing a fine fur, just needs her Dr. Shivago!

Will try, it's my goal to get decent pics of them at fledgling age anyway.

Okay, everyone seems to agree that Nibbler is a hen,

here's another try at Simone/Simon, at one month and two days:

I would like to think people can have an opinion... no...

Well Richo,have you worked out if the photo above,is a hen or cock. :)

PS anybody can have a opinion but weather they are right is

the question.

Still think it's a hen. But there is always room for getting it wrong :o

Great photo Kate - boy or girl - she/he is a gorgeous babie budgie!!!!

Thanks nubbly5, she is a sweetie as is her "twin" Nibbler hatched the same day.... both spent first full day/night outside the box yesterday!

I discovered the best for me is to use macro setting and continuous-shooting, better chance of getting at least one in focus.

No idea macka, but I enjoy the game of guessing and I find especially helpful nubbly's mini tutorial with pictures. Love to see more of that stuff...I think the question is to explain WHY you think they are hens, this then becomes a useful post to a novice like me.
