Posted August 10, 200915 yr i just got home from holidays about 1 hour ago. I fed all the birds. and in my sky opaline and lutino nest both green opalines have fledged. now one is definitely been fed, because i watched dad feed him. but the other one keeps getting attacked by mum(attacked is not a very good word to use but she is kind of fluttering above him and pushes him out of the seed bowl). dad hasnt fed him im sure, he doesnt look as good as the other chick either. what can i do? do i take mum and will dad feed them? suggestions needed please, because if i need a crop needle and formula i need to get down to the produce by soon as it closes 6pm. ps sorry if this has been discussed, im sure it has, but my internet is really slow and wouldnt search properly thanks in advance Edited August 10, 200915 yr by cameronsch
August 10, 200915 yr Author Cabinet breeding the dad just kinf of pecks him, like he would a hen ready ti breed if you know what i mean. Edited August 10, 200915 yr by cameronsch
August 10, 200915 yr How old is the chick ? How long do you think since it hasnt been fed ? Is it fully feathered ? Why isnt it eating on its own if at fledging age ?
August 10, 200915 yr Author he would only be about 6 wks or a little older, they had plenty of seed i was only gone 2 days and someone was looking after them. hes fully featherd besides a little section behind his neck.
August 10, 200915 yr okay, I agree with Kaz and you should remove the hen far away so the cock doesn't hear her and he should continue feeding the chicks. do you have a photo?? perhaps there is something wrong with the chick that the parents dont like?
August 10, 200915 yr Author also the dad is like playing with him, like when they rub their beak all pver the other bird. he did the same with the other chick, but while he was doing that he fed him also, i dont know why he wont feed this one and he is getting a little bit rough.will get one. could be like 5-10 minutes cause internet is slow. will be on my phone.heres the chick.not much you can tell from it though, other than he looks a little tired:( which isnt good.
August 10, 200915 yr She looks like she has food in the crop to me and at six weeks old it should be eating. The dish is too high...........scatter seeds all over the floor around this baby and watch. Edited August 10, 200915 yr by KAZ
August 10, 200915 yr Author yes kaz, she does, i just checked it. i can feel food in their i just scatered a heap of seed on the floor everywhere for her. i suppose that is a good sign i will keep a close eye on her and see how she goes and if she looks a bit iffy i'll get some rearing ix to give her.
August 10, 200915 yr She looks fine to me Cameron apart from missing feathers. I would also put a warm lamp near the cage for her...she may have a little shock due to the mothers attacks.
August 10, 200915 yr Author yeah i just brought her inside, away from both parents in a seperate cage with her sibling. dad was getting a rough with her. i just mixed up some egg and biscuit with warm water, until sloppy, and she ate loads of it off the tip of the spoon. i then added a little seed into it and she ate a little more. also fed her sibling, although he was doing perfectly fine. thanks for all your help
