Posted August 8, 200915 yr "Eagle" is not interested in sleeping while the ashes are on. His sleeping patterns are as distorted as mine. I would never disturb him however he seems to sleep when i do.. .Can budgies suffer from sleep deprivation?... I have tried putting covers on his cage to no avail. Just seems to fire him up!
August 8, 200915 yr My 2 month old budgie Olimar is just the same he goes crazy when you cover him up. He's goes to sleep a 9pm I cover him over at about half eight and it takes him half an hour to get to sleep. I know if budgie's don't get sleep they get moody and sometimes agressive. Is him tame?
August 8, 200915 yr It really doesn't matter when you put them down what matters is that they are given at least 10-12 hours of cover time for sleep even if they are awake keep them covered, the less you cover them the more hormonal they can and will get too.

I too am sleep deprived due to the ashes (2.30am ) Sleep deprivation is budges can be displayed as behaviour issues. It can also stimulate breeding behaviour, as less daylight hours = spring/summer = breeding. Can you move him into another room while the ashes is on? (Being 82/5, we should have them out tonight, so you don't have long for this test)
August 9, 200915 yr Author I would say he is tame Jodie, 10-12 hrs a day Ellie! I will do it if I have to, and for now I guess it's into the hmmm... not sure where, will discuss it with the other guys here.
August 9, 200915 yr I personally feel that simply being covered while in a bright or noisy room is really disturbing for them and does not encourage them to sleep, I think it's more stressful than anything. As opposed to the hours of light affecting their hormones I think it is the hours of dark, and I mean darker than just having a cover on. It's not natural for them to be in a semi-dark place while there is a lot of noise and movement going on around them especially if they are tame and can hear their owner (their "mate") but can't find/see them. I agree that it is a good idea to move him to a different room, particularly where it is quieter and it can be much darker. Edited August 9, 200915 yr by Chrysocome
August 9, 200915 yr Author Rest assured, it shall be done. Better safe than sorry. 10 hrs darkness every day.

With my statement I didn't mean to cover them up at 2 PM and keep them covered until 2 AM but if you tend to go to sleep later then 10 PM and wake up alot then I would yes chose a place in your home that is quiet and dark, Merlin goes to bed here at 8AM inspite of everything and yes he chirps here and there but he knows if yours doesn't then a separate room is best.
