Another Sick Budgie

Featured Replies

I am glad you will be taking the bird to Libby. You will like Lib a lot. She is great with birds. Be very careful about giving water by spoon. Its the easiest thing to aspirate into the lungs.

:)

Good luck at Libby's

I have had the pleasure of meeting her too and she is lovely! :)

A bird in the condition this one obviously is will not take a feed off a spoon without aspirating. Libby has offered to take the bird and do what needs to be done.........they dont live that far apart that the bird cannot be got to Libby. Its up to CUTE.SPANGLED.BUB to recognise that the need to accept help is URGENT and get the bird to Libby. If no vet, then Libby is next best option. I would trust Libby with any sick bird.
but they choose not to have done that and its not good to just watch it in a cage doing nothing we cant get her to take it and i dont like reading about the bird just sitting there while help and the offers isnt or cant be acted on unfortually in this case so you try to find something that in her experience and circumstances she can do that will enable the bird to have some sort of chance like i said i would rather try anything than nothing the fact it could die by a spoon feed is irelevant because if it did its a lot quicker than starving over days and once again the poor thing is dieing anyway so far better to try than not and watch it starving in this case i like everyone really wish she would or could have be able to have taken up the offers yesterday but this is how it looks at the moment1/ vet not possible2/ libby not yet3/ could at least try something simple4/ do nothing exept discuss
ghazzigh, i dont want to play vets with this bird im not taking any risks i am going to see libby later on in the day the bird has survived the night but is just hanging on and she wont eati had got a spoon of water and placed in down her throat she is okay. Just because im a bit younger doesnt mean i dont know what im doing or what you guys are talking aboutAn dkaz yes its up to me to realsise this i have arranged to meet libby today im just waiting for her addressed. I am very upset and sad for this birdI do realise it is URGENT
its not playing vets to provide some basic things trying to help you out instead of you only being able to watch untill something is sorted out and i for one have made sure to try to state that your age and expience and circumstances have made it harder for you to deal with this moreso than us adults if we were in your situation

OH MY IM SO SORRY I HAVE MIXED MY POSTS .....VERY BAD WOOPS .

THIS BIT

look it doent matter anymore as to whats been happening

she is now taking it to libby so this is all that counts

THIS BIT WAS MENT FOR OTHER SICK BIRD POST BY IRENNE

I AM SO SORRY CUTE SPANGLE

TOO MANY BIRDS SICK WITH NO WAY TO GET HELP DOING MY HEAD IN ARRRRRRRRRRRRRR

it is not her fault her peronts are not the kind of people to care weather or not the bird dies

i think its very wrong

and obviously i wonder what happens to the birds in your flock that also get sick in future

if i was you cute.spangle

i would be saving some money aside and keeping enough for a taxi trip to and from and vet costs for future times ahead as this will not be the last time you get a sick bird on your hands and if your peronts wont help you than you need a back up plan

when i was younger mum my and dad wouldnt help me get an injered cat to the vets and it was in the next town ship 1 hours walk away (it was not ours )

i was only 14 mabe 15 but i did not let them stop me i put it in a box and i walked their i had no money or anything it took me longer than an hour as it was up hills and all and the cat was heavy but i rested now and then i finally made it i took the cat inside and explained my situation that i had no money that the cat was hit by a car in frount of me that id walked it home (which took me 20 minits that mum wouldnt bring me and that it took me 1 hour to get he

he was thank full i cared enough an took the cat in straight to be oparatted on it was hurt badly

the moral her is bassicly

WHERE THEIR IS A WILL THEIR IS A WAY

by way i payed the vet off for that bill cost me 190 dollors and took me 6 months doing jobs around peoples houses but the cat lived and was rehomed so it was worth it to me

so be prepaired next time you have a aviry so if i was you i would find out waht was wrong with this bird or they could all get sick

I would just like to add, for the record, that I would be willing to go visit cute spangled bub at her home anytime in the future to help her with advice about her aviary birds and how she may be able to make some changes that will help them all stay healthy. It would be good too if she was taught to crop feed....I can teach that.....and also she needs to have some emergency meds on hand and a hospital box. There is support available if she needs it and her parents will allow it.

PM me for phone contact details.

KAZ this is why i love this forum

we have all these young people out their wanting to do right thing for their birds

and unable to some times

its so nice to have some one who is willing to come over and help teach you things

i myself would be happy to do this for people in my area also

i myself would love someone to help me with my birds as you have offered and as i said im 36 lol

the people on here are so willing to give up their time to help and take birds in its sooooo good

got to love you all on here :D:D

While all this is going on and we may well be distracted about this one sick bird...........it would be a very good time to check the actual health of your other aviary birds..............

1. check to see if water is getting into the aviary and if the ground is wet.

2. check to see if others are looking fluffed up.

3. Check to see if any others look thin or have poopy bottoms.

4. If the ground is wet and you have other birds not looking well, you need COCCIVET in their water.

5. and other sick birds need to be brought in and put into warm conditions...........warm cage with lamp or similar.

PS I can visit you tomorrow if you like to help you out.

I have also had the pleasure of meeting Kaz and she is a lovely too. You are in very good hands with both Lib and Kaz :D

I'll be on call all night if you need me and avaliable all day tomorrow if you can convince your parents to take you to the vet or here.

She needs electrolytes and glucose desperatly, but with a bird this sick crop feeding is detrimental and even then they can bring it back up from their shrunken crop and aspirate. Once she's fitting she's only minutes off death so she needs nutrience before this happens. If you do try to feed her off the spoon, which i doubt she'll take she'll more than likely take it into her lungs. IF this happens you'll find she'll go immediatly limp (suffocating) You need to hold her tightly in both hands ( like they do with newborn pups and kittens) support her head well and hold her still and give her a slight forward flick movement. This will remove the liquid and food from her lungs. Although i highly recommend not trying to feed her off a spoon.

this time im going to differ in opioion because for the last couple of days we have had a bird just sitting there wasting away while questions have been asked and offers put out but not being able to be taken up on we have a young person that probably hasnt got a crop tube well obiousbly hasnt done it anyway even if they did whereas on the other end everyone has a spoon and its not beyond her age and experience to try and bird is dieing anyway i know how hard it is for a adult to crop feed a very sick bird and the spoon for a young person in that situation in far better than keeping looking in the cage doing nothing but questioning you have nothing to lose in that situation at all

just a thought

I disagree... i think Daniela is doing as much as possible for this bird she can. Being only 12 the last thing she needs to do is try to take matters into her own hands and have a bird die on her from aspirating. I know that at that age if i felt personally responsible for the death of my animal i'd be beside myself with guilt. She's doing everything she can without jeopardising it's life any further. Hopefully when she's able to come it's not too late for the poor thing.

thanks everyone :)

the bird was getting much worse by today, and time was a factor. I could have gone to libby's which i would have only loved to do, but the vet was closer even if libby could have done a better job.

I have pm libby about it and i hope she understands and i will definetly make sure i will meet her next time.

By the way at the vets the guys said he thinks the bird is gonna die :D and tonight hes keeping her in a hospital cage and will take samples of poo etc and if the bird does die he will open her and check outt what had hit her as he doesnt know :(

I am waiting for his call tommorrow morning...

You guys are very lovely and kind :) thankyou for your support and understanding

OMGGGGGG!!!!! my bird is alive and i have taken her home with me giving her 0.05 mls of baytrill drops twice a day! she is still looking a bit sick but it seems that shes gonna be okay  the vet said it must ffrom being bullied by other birds iam very lucky and happy i was over the moon she is now in a cage covered with towel and a heat bag next to her

a hospital cage is what saved her, so im running to get one :D

Edited by KAZ

Glad to hear your bird will be okay  Hospital cages work wonders thats for sure!! How many birds do you have? I'd say just borrow Kaz's for the time being! It's a pretty big investment if your (hopefully) not going to be using it too often?

coming back from soccer today, i come into the house ready to eat. But then idecided to go have a shower first. i walk into the bathroom, and first thing i do is check on my sick budgie which i now call Bella. She isnt moving. Shes cold. Shes lifeless.

What did i do wrong? im now crying because the poor bird had to suffer. i gave the medicine a heat bag, i still dont get it. Why di god have to take her away from me//

I hope she is safe in heaven

RIP Bella

Oh No! I am so sorry. :D

Sometimes birds have a last moment of brightness when they are really sick. You did everything you could and I am sure she didn't suffer. So sorry
