Posted August 5, 200915 yr I currently have my breeder cock and hen birds segregated separately before pairing up a second time. I have this one Sky budgie that I'd really like to breed with but so far this year he hasn't filled an egg. Last night I saw him humping the wire front of his holding cage and made a mental note to put him down sooner than later. This afternoon I was doling out the soft food and I noticed he was flirting uncontrollably with a Recessive Pied cock. Then to my amazement he arched his back and the Recessive Pied cock bird jumped on and proceeded to mate him! I promptly removed him from the boys cage and popped him in with a hen I have on her own. okay, so my question is, obviously the boys are randy as, is this what prompted the same sex copulation or could he just be innately gay?

August 5, 200915 yr Author I don't believe such a situation exists I kid you not Richo. My cock birds chat each other up all the time - nothing newsworthy there - but I have never seen one arch his back like the hens do and then proceeded to be mated. Hence the post. August 5, 200915 yr I have heard the same with dolphins... very upsetting i have one the same... a male budgie who kisses up the boys and humps the wire etc. he is in a breeding cabinet with a hen at the moment and just looks at her like " Ummm I just ain't that into Chicks" Don't give him an ugly one silly... goodness me
August 5, 200915 yr Role reversal Just the other day I had a "pair" in the aviary mount "normally" then he hopped off and she hopped on him  Both these birds have produced for me before? Perhaps they're just... "experimental" ???
August 6, 200915 yr I had a similar scenario with my old budgie that i had, i had an 07 cock and the 02 cock in the aviary, next thing i know the 07 cock is on mating with it? ...i guess it's just random experimentation or something

Try him with a better looking one Renee! On a more serious note. I had to banish a beautiful sky cock into the hens flight for over 12 months before he figured he was "into girls" enough to stop trying to chat up the boys in the adjoining flight. I now do that with the more timid fellas - they soon get over their fear of girl germs.
