Posted August 4, 200915 yr Well as many of you have seen on here i have my tame boy Honey... Honey is now 2 years old and there is STILL no sign of iris rings? all my other ino's have iris rings? Has anyone ever heard of this happening before? or why it happens? His parents were an Albino hen and a Lutino cock Photo of Honey as he looks today:
August 4, 200915 yr I wonder if he is a recessive pied under all that ino?? Parents could have been recessive pieds, or split to it.
August 4, 200915 yr Ino can mask all other varieties, so he might be masking something too. can you try breeding him to a normal hen and see what pops out in the cocks??
August 4, 200915 yr Author But if recessive pied, which he'd need to be to have no iris rings wouldn't a pairing to a normal show no results?
August 4, 200915 yr then pair to a split recessive pied Otherwise some of the cocks will show the split to recessive spot on the head Edited August 4, 200915 yr by **Liv**
August 4, 200915 yr He is a lutino to all intents and purposes..that seems obvious........... if he was recessive pied his eyes wouldnt be red.
August 4, 200915 yr I mean he is masking recessive pied Kaz... He is a full recessive pied that is being masked by the lutino gene. Same as they can mask opaline, cinnamon, spangle, dominant pied etc etc etc. when you get an albino, lutino you have no real idea of what genetics the bird has, other than the ino gene. August 4, 200915 yr I mean he is masking recessive pied Kaz... He is a full recessive pied that is being masked by the lutino gene. I totally understand what you mean now. I once had a chick with bright red eyes, yellow body and wings, green on rump and light cinnamon markings. Turned out to be a fallow who was also carying recessive pied and affected by spangle as well :happy-dancing: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....l=mystery+chick Edited August 4, 200915 yr by KAZ
August 5, 200915 yr The lutino i bred from a light green normal cock x cinnamon cobalt hen, also has no iris ring. well that i can see anyway?(hard to see as she has two green opaline chicks in nestbox and always hides in there when she sees me)
