Well my Yellow Face blue hen x Grey Spangle Cock have 4 eggs and this morning I checked my Yellow Clearbody Cock x Cinnamon Grey Green Hen and they have an egg.

 

Although not budgie related, my charcoal zebs have 4 young in the nest as well. I hung 3 boxes up for the Princess Parrots but they have not shown any interest yet. The quails are sitting on 7 eggs.

Well make that no eggs for the Clearbody x Cinnamon pair. I went to check this morning and the egg is gone. It looks like she may have had a midnight snack on it. Should I be worried about this? She has plenty of cuttlefish and calci grit in the cage.

I truly do not believe that egg eating is related in any way to a deficiency of sorts with birds re calcium levels etc. Often times they accidentally break the egg being clumsy and then it is seen as a food source once broken. New parents have this problem at times and young breeders.

i agree with kaz i just had a albino hen punture a egg first layed

i left it their anyway and next day she had egg face lol

i was a bit worryed at first and placed a marbale in to replace the egg she had eatten

but then

the next egg was fine

and the next and the next so she is doing well sitting

so she may not eat them all

Absolutely agree with Kaz. I have seen an egg accidentally punctured and as soon as the hen noticed, she ate it. She has never eaten any other egg other than the one i saw with a puncture

I guess it's the same thing as a mammal eating the placenta of their young in a way.

I checked tonight when I got home from work and she has laid another egg and it was warm which indicates she has been sitting on it. Will be keeping a close eye on things for sure.

A great many people have misplaced faith in cuttlebone. Most budgies play with it more than they ingest it. Grit you dont need for budgies. Try using calcivet in her water. Makes a difference immediately.

I dont use cuttlefish at all. I use calcium blocks and I use calcivet. Grit is for birds who do not hull their seeds. Although some will argue that one
