My Current Parakeet's Names are Kiwi (Yellow ) And Kaii (Blue)

Kiwi had lost an abnormal amount of feathers, but when i went to the vet they told me to make sure he is eating right, which he is, and to maybe go out and buy more toys to make him not as bored. So I did, and he's doing better, he isnt plucking at himself any more, unless to clean himself, but thats why we bird baths!! XD

Anyways, enough on my Wierd babbling and ON WITH THE PICTURES!! Wooo!!

As I said to you on yahoo answers, before I got you to come here, Kiwi has more going on about the feather issue. Cannot be plucking as there are feathers missing from places Kiwi cannot possibly remove them. Was the vet a bird vet ? An Avian vet ? because the advice you have got doesnt sound quite right. And as kiwi also has issues with overgrown beak, its possible that combined with the feather loss indicates PBFD or beak and feather disease. Since kiwi was a FOUND budgie its quite likely it was released due to an issue a previous owner did not want to deal with. If it has beak and feather then its contagious and your other budgie could catch it too.

they are very pretty birds and welcom eto the forum i am looking forwar to get to get to nknow you and your birds

:) Daneila

looks like you really love your birds :) can i just make a suggestion unless you have already done it plese think about treating the birds with worming and mites solution.have you quarentined darl? kiwi doesnt look so well to me might be worth taking him to the vet. sorry if it sounded out of place and rude it is just i , along with you want the wellbeing of yourbirds to be happy and healthy. alright xx Elise xx

That bird is not a self plucker. Any vet who told you that does not know what they are talking about.

I am guessing that your bird has PBFD. There is no cure. Keeping it alive simply prolongs its own pain and increases the chance that you other bird will become infected and die.

Sorry for being so brutal and harsh, but you should know what you have in front of you.

I am 90% sure that the yellow bird has pbfd. My birds had the exact same beak problems.

This was one of my pbfd birds

Culling it may be the best option, their is a chance your other bird has contracted the disease also.

Thanks you all for telling me, I guess the vet yesterday was simply trying to rush me out of there.

Im going to go read up on this disease and try to find a better vet! Thanks!!

If it is that, sadly there is nothing that can be done... but I do agree you need a avain (bird) vet. My biggest concern, is that the longer you keep them together, the bigger the risk that your other budgie will also become sick.

Maesie is so right. PBFD is hugely contagious and your other bird is at risk. method of transmission is feather dander..........same airspace, same room, and contact from you will transmit it to a healthy bird. You may have to take both birds to the vet.

im real sorry about this babe it must be very heart breaking but you need to seperate them i know they are great friends and ' will get lonely' but im sure you will keep them company :thankyou: when you find a GOOD avairian vet take them both there as kaz said. its looking like a definate for pbfd and darl even if it is im sure you dont want to loose both of your birds. take care xx Elise xx
