hi

been reading about seeds best for budgies and want to know what ones are classed as filler seeds

its the **** seeds they put in the seed mixes to take up space, which means less of the good seed. cheap seed the birds dont eat.

Pearce is right. Sometimes they even put wheat in there.

thats a start if wheat is present thats a filler

Plain brand or no name brand seed always has filler seed so dont buy cheap brands.

when I look at a bag of no name seed from woolworths, then look at a seed from golden cob/riverina etc, I can see a massive difference.

The no name seed has lots of orange seeds which I find my birds dont eat, and little black seeds, which they dont eat either. And they are missing many seeds that riverina or golden cob have

The ones Pearce mentioned are named rapeseed and sorghum (also called milo).

Sorghum is way too hard and rapeseed is way too small. No name brands are typically packed with this stuff.

I suggest that you go to a reputable seed merchant, if there is one near you. Go armed with a list of the best seeds and buy some of each. Then you can mix your own. The more you buy from a merchant, the cheaper they will be.

If you can source Golden Cob budgie breeder supreme mix its very good. Also budgies eat ALL of good quality finch mix as well...leave nothing behind.
