August 1, 200915 yr Those feathers do look quite longish... What are the chances that liv and then you would get FD's so close? Agree with Kaz - the chick should grow much faster than its siblings, have a noticeably 'different' voice, be constantly eating or noticeably hungrier and have the characteristic extra tail feathers and sometimes extra flights.

So that means that I will be the last person on this planet to accept it. So he has really long feathers but is NOT hungry all the time and does not have a croaky voice. But I'll keep taking photos and we shall see with time.

BUT she grew into her feathers and was normal after all. I will look for photos for you Here she is........ Later on went on to win Best Danish Pied In show fairly often and she has been breeding for me. Edited August 1, 200915 yr by KAZ
August 1, 200915 yr I hope your baby is not a FD. Watch the shaft of the feathers... if there is always sheath in the lower part of the feather and it doesnt seem to get closer to the skin as the chick grows, then it's a FD. Time will tell. for now its looking like a super Recessive so fingers crossed its not a FD! The voice/chirp is high pitched too. The screech (when they are upset) is normal.
August 2, 200915 yr Author Well this arvo I thought I'd try Mojo in a foster nest as I'm concerned he is not making the transition to seed feeding. I have an extremely reliable cock bird who takes in foster chicks of all ages and rears them wonderfully. It was not to be I'm afraid. Mojo behaved quite disgracefully and pecked at all the other chicks who came up to him to make friends. Then Papa approached him, in quite an amiable way I thought, and Mojo pecked at him too! Papa's friendliness evaporated quite quickly after that and I had to remove him asap. So I've popped him back with Mate again.
