Hi there, I have this pair down to breed...

 

Casper an albino (parentage unknown)

 

and Mocha a skyblue YF2 rec. pied cinnamon spangle

 

Mocha's parents are YF2 skyblue opaline spangle split rec. pied hen and a green and yellow greywing cock split blue, ino, cinnamon, and rec. pied.

 

They currently have 1 egg laid on the 25/7 and if all goes to plan maybe another 1 today.

 

Could someone give me an idea on what to expect from this pair even without knowing anything about Casper.

 

I'm very excited as it's been well over a year since we've had babies.

the cock seems to have very dark eyes in picture

are his eyes pink and where is his iris rings

i dont see any

 

u can not predict an out come when you do not know heritage of a bird

especially an albino

he could be masking anything be split to anything who knows

but they should be lovely and all cocks split ino and cocks split cinn

if the albino is not masking cinnimon or split to cinn if he is you could get cinniman chicks also if he is split only some will be cinn if he is cin you will get all cin chicks

you could get a albino hens and could be masking normal wing or spangle

and all birds will be split rec pie

some mabe split grey wing as the mother is split grey wing

but you wont know which ones intill breeding

so some will be split rec pied and grey wing if your lucky

and some chicks will be spangle and some norm

 

so rezult could be (as i dont know fathers history

 

spangle and normal chicks

cocks /ino/rec pie /cinnimon if your lucky some split greywing

hens /rec pie and if lucky /grey wing

ino hens

 

thats if dad is not cinn or /cinn and is masking normal

their is so many out comes pos

if he is spangle (masking)

you could end up with df spangles and spangles and normals so...to find out what he is masking you need to breed him to a hen of normal wings or you will never know his real mutation under that lovely white coat

Egg No. 3 arrived today. All is looking good. Am going to try candling for the first time in a couple of days to see if I can learn something new. :rip:

Look at casper's wing... Look's spangle to me... and i don't see red eye's... unless you fixed red eye in photobucket. So i don't think it's albino... :rip:

He's definitely albino...unfortunately the photo is just not showing the red eyes. :rip:

Ahh, That's why then....maybe he's also spangle... cause it looks ALOT like spangle in the wing :rip:

Four eggs now. I tried candling but I can't tell anything from looking at them. :hap: They all look the same, I can see a dark patch but no veins. So I give up and I'm just gonna have to wait and be surprised.

Casper and Mocha's 5th egg arrived late yesterday afternoon.

I'm hoping she'll stop laying now as I don't want her to have too many eggs as both are first time parents and I want them to have an easy first time go of this.

But I don't have any control over that so I'll just hope that this is her limit as I don't have any foster parents available. I did put another pair down when I put these two down but I've had no movement from that pair yet.

I just candled the eggs again in the hope that I will see what others see...and yay I did.

So far 2 fertile eggs out of 5...the others being too early to see anything I assume.

It was so exciting, I've never seen that before...little red veins and what was obviously the tiny foetus.

The kids were amazed to see it too!

Now, I know it's basically 18 days from when she begins incubating, but how do I know when she actually starts incubating as she has pretty much stayed in the box from day 1 of laying? Only coming out very briefly to mate and eat and not staying out very long at all.

Anyway, can't wait, it's so exciting. :happy-dancing:

Very lively and well fed.

At least 2 of the other eggs were showing fertile, but we'll wait and see.

Now I've been doing a bit of reading and according to what I've read this baby is opaline due to having white down.

Very exciting, so dad is masking or split opaline. I wasn't expecting this and I'm so excited as opaline is one of my fave mutations along with spangle and spangle opalines being my all time fave.

I think this also means that baby is a girl as well.

Can't wait to see what else I'll get.

In my excitement I've jumped the gun...The first baby is albino! I forgot about the eyes...not having seen them before today left me believing the wrong thing. She has red eyes so defintitely no doubting what she is.

The second baby has dark eyes though and white down again...but seeing as I stuffed up the last one I'm not saying anything now.

That's not the white down people refer to as opaline "white down" Once the chick has it's full down at roughly 2 weeks old before the pins set in then you can see the opaline down... but not now.

Thanks for the info...I'm gonna use the excuse that I'm still a newbie for all my mistakes!

In the mean time I'll just wait and wait and wait and practice all that patience I learnt from having kids.

This is Blotch and Elmo and I put them down a few months ago. I think they missed getting their act together in time to take advantage of their breeding condition. I left them together in the hopes that when they came into breeding condition again they would do okay. It has been ages and I was losing all hope that they would ever get it together. They have been mating like crazed rabbits but I doubted that anything was going right. I began to think that maybe something was wrong with them. Well after a few months together I had decided to put them back in the aviary and let them have a holiday and some fun times.

Well, surprise surprise ...they have an egg (laid 18/8). I'm very pleased.

 

 

 

Mocha and Casper's babies and going great. Expecting the last of their babies to hatch sometime today.

Hi there, just thought I'd give an update on my birds.

Mocha and Caspers babies are hooting along. Lively and healthy as, and super loud.

 

No. 1 baby - Albino hen - 13 days old

No. 2 baby - 11 days old

No. 3 baby - 9 days old

And the 3 of them together. No. 2 and 3 I think might be pieds...they have dark and light coloured patches of skin.

 

Blotch and Elmo have 5 eggs.

I candled them this morning and none looking fertile. Couldn't tell which ones are the new ones, but should've been able to see something of the older eggs (the oldest egg is 10 days old) but they all look the same. So at the moment I'm thinking they may be infertile, just have to wait and see. Not holding out much hope for this pair at present though.
