Posted July 24, 200915 yr Hi all, I have a pair of King quails in aviary. Wondering if they can learn to drink from drip type bottle? Thought that may eliminate budgies getting access to droppings etc. in quail water as they are pretty messy, don't want bud's getting sick from this as they also will drink from dish as well as their bottle's. thanks
July 24, 200915 yr Hi, I had a similar problem, but I didn't want to swap to a drip bottle because my quails love to get in the water when it's hot. I swapped to using one of those covered bird baths that you are supposed to hook onto the outside of an indoor cage. My quails like it but the budgies don't want to go in it, because of the roof. You can get them from a petshop and for about $5. If you don't know what I mean you could probably google outside of cage birdbath.

I have a kitty litter tray for them to use as a dust bath in summer but haven't tried it as yet. Our floor is paved, so thought I'd use sand in tray instead of soil.
July 24, 200915 yr Quail's first of all bath in dirt. So you wouldnt need anything extravagant for them... something simple like a standard water dish or bottle upside down that pour's water into the bowl...
July 24, 200915 yr Mine bath in the seed husks that collect in the corner of the aviary. I know what you mean by the water getting filthy on the floor of the aviary though. I have seen my quails drink drops of water before so i believe they will be able to use a bottle
July 24, 200915 yr I use a dripper bottle for my quails and they love it you shouldn't have any issues with it and it'll keep the water sources clean. And as has already been said they take dirt baths instead of water baths so won't change much Go for it, they adjust very fast
July 26, 200915 yr Author Thanks for the information everyone. Will use drip bottle and a tray for sand/soil for dustbath's. Should keep everyone happy.
