Posted July 19, 200916 yr I spotted my YF Hen and Spangle Greywing Cock having a "fling" this morning. Is late July/early August generally considered the time of year when budgies start to get into the breeding cycle?
July 19, 200916 yr Breeding season and mating are two entirely different things. Budgies mate ALL YEAR LONG.........its their recreational sex.
July 19, 200916 yr I thought I did say breeding cycle???? I know they mate all the time. Just wondering if this is generally accepted as being the time of year when they look to go to nest.
July 20, 200916 yr okay, Question for you.... I have a pair of birds, every day in the morning i go out there they are doing it.. But i never see any eggs, They have been paired up for a while now and all ive seen is one egg and that got broken. Could it be she is laying and eating the eggs, she is not Egg Bound as i have checked her.

Sorry Mine are ready to go to nest most all of the year and I breed all year round due to having the conditions to do so. BUT if you have been getting rain like all of us most other places, they are very motivated by rainfall. It triggers a place in their brain that tells them rain means plentiful food for as long as they need to raise a family. Budgies are motivated more by plentiful food, water and good conditions more than a season. Wild budgies would go by seasons as regards crops, rainfall, droughts or not etc. Edited July 20, 200916 yr by KAZ
