Posted July 18, 200916 yr Hello everyone.... I noticed when I posted a breeding question a few weeks ago that by budgie seemed to look at bit "fat"?...... I've been watching her closely for the last few weeks - caught her this afternoon and had a good look and feel of her, she doesn't feel overley "fat", or doesn't seem to have any lumps around her chest and neck, just feels (and bites!!) like most of the others.....she just looks as if she has no "neck shape". Do you think this is something that I need to see a vet about??, she is active, eats and drinks well, loves veggies and fruit...... Maybe it's just her...??? She is about a year old....
July 18, 200916 yr Some pet shop type birds look like that .... so long as she doesn't feel "squishy" around the neck you should be right
July 18, 200916 yr If you can't feel their keel bone without pushing then they are fat, your bird too me looks overweight personally but I am no expert.
July 18, 200916 yr Less perches, more room to fly not just sit, no oats and fattening seeds in their seed blend.
July 23, 200916 yr I had a budgie that looked similar to that (although not quite that puffy). I thought she was overweight but the vet said she was just a stocky bird. But as Kaz said, cutting down on oats and sunflower seeds might be a good idea and replace those with lots of green veggies.
