My first time breeding, and one little pinkie hatched tonight to Zena and Rambo. Zena is a big yellow face blue and Rambo an olive green dominant pied. Only one problem. I didn't get my budgie club membership forms in time to get my rings

ask at your club, someone will have some uncodeds you can buy.

Will do, I'll try and get a picture of the little guy tomorrow when mums out of the box. I tried to get a peak and got screamed at...

Thanks KAZ, very helpfull. Their breeding cage is up high, on the back deck, it's under cover out of the weather but it's pretty cold at night (6c most nights) should I bring it indoors? Will that disturb the parents or will it be fine to leave it be? I would like to at least put it down lower for easier access to the nest.

Mum is very stubborn and will not leave the nest if I tap, I tried using a feather to tickle her and send her out she just ripped it out of my hand attcking it quite viciously. I am not afraid of bites ( I hand tamed my ringneck through it's bluffing stage... ) I was just worried of disturbing them. If it's okay to shove her (gently) out of the way I will do so tomorrow. There are 2 more eggs. Dad has never entered the nest once. He waits for mum to come out to feed her.

I have a pack of passwell budgie starter in the cupboard, the parents refused to eat it. Will that surfice if I need to feed baby? What is the best consitency to mix it to.

Yogurt is easy.

If you can bring it indoors without too much fuss and disturbance it might be a good idea, as the cold nights are no good for newly hatched babies.

The Dads usually start being the main feeders from chicks aged around 2 weeks. Alot of my Dads feed the tiny new babies right from the start but they are all different

Budgie starter is good for fledged babies. Not for feeding younger ones. Parents will eat more food as their needs to feed babies more volumes of food increases............keep trying to give parents lots of varied good food.

Yogurt is easy. Yoghurt is emergency food for newly hatched babies but not for ongoing raising of babies.......if you need to buy some passwells hand raising food, or in an emergency, some heinz mixed grain baby cereal ...dry mix

:D:)

sounds like a mixed message GB...............clubs here are allowed to carry emergency uncodeds for people who need rings in an emergency or having just missed out on ordering due to being new members.

It's not a major problem if I don't get to ring these ones. Ive decided to leave the cage outside, the only room I could put it is too close to the kitchen and my mother refuses to stop using teflon. I have my ringneck in my room and she does not take kindly to intruders. Ive put 2 blankets over the cage and box for night time. Iv'e checked baby twice, might be a day older than I thought, I heard the squeaking last night, but it already has a bit of down appearing on the rump. It's nice and lively and had a nice full crop. 1 egg remains, may hatch tomorrow (fingers crossed)

Update on pinkie... not calling it that by the way. If it's a boy ( don't know if you can tell this young?) I'm calling him buddha, BIG FAT BELLY :D
