May 29, 201015 yr and parents She does look like Renee but I think she has better deportment and stands better on the perch.
May 29, 201015 yr Liv, you have done so well. Congratulations!! I think your hen is prettier than the winning birds anyway. She is such a beautiful colour. Isn't that amazing - the one pair able to produce so much grief and celebration.
May 29, 201015 yr What a journey with this breeding couple. A lot of us have heard the whole "Unless you are producing feather dusters, you are not producing birds with good enough feather". When you read this thread and see where the sister has gone, makes you go "hmmmm, interesting, maybe it is true........." Well done Liv.
May 30, 201015 yr Author She does look like Renee but I think she has better deportment and stands better on the perch. :budgiedance: Yes she has Renee's (hens) feather and her dad's posture, but she is a dumb as a brick that fell off the back of a truck, hence why we call her Dopey - Hopeful she will have enough sense to mate with the cock i have for her and then lay eggs in a box I still have Renee for this seasons breeding but the father has moved on to a new home as I have WAY too many YF. Thanks Dave, I think what they say about FD is very true :hooray: Edited May 30, 201015 yr by **Liv**

May 30, 201015 yr Liv you probably wont know me yet as I am a new member but not a new reader of the forum. I have followed this thread with interest and sadness at the loss of the feathers dusters, but also with admiration at their determination and even more so your determination and dedication that gave them such a short but I'm sure happy as possible life. I dont know much about the quality standards of show birds but I do know beauty when I see it and what a little beauty your latest hen is, a very worthy bird for second, if I had been judging she would have been first she is absolutely gorgeous and I hope her success helps take away some of the hurt you must have felt with the loss of the feather dusters.

May 31, 201015 yr Are you marking the offspring of this pair (together or with other birds) as possible carriers of FD? Last I checked it was believed to be a recessive gene, so having said that you could easily breed dusters from little runty birds as easily as you could with big gorgeous buff birds. The first dusters were not large birds by any means.. Are you worried about this becoming more widespread in your flock and cropping up more frequently?
May 31, 201015 yr Author I have already flagged all offspring of this pair as having a Recessive FD gene in my records and plan to track the genes throughout the breeding. :hap:
May 31, 201015 yr This is a picture of the first FD I have ever bred ,4 weeks old, Ive bred budgies for over 15 years. This bird I bred about 12 months ago. The split mask is one feature that will give it away as the chick matures in the box. This chick is the second FD Ive bred, 6 weeks old , photo taken today. No relation to the bird bred last year. Pairing was Normal to Fallow.
May 31, 201015 yr i seen her at the nat's she is a vrey nice bird i will love to have her in my breeding room !!!
