Does Size Matter

Hi all, have been trolling through various forum's, f.a.q. etc. Can anyone tell me if a small pet type cock can successfully breed with larger show type hen? Or vice versa. Have been wondering if I can pair up birds of unequal size and get a good clutch from them. many thanks. Robyn

i quiet often put a larger short hen to a longer pet type cock as long as he has good poster and so on but this is only to upsize my pet type birds

rearly do i put a large cock to a small hen just depends what your idea of small is really

usually the hens have bigger heads and the cock will have nice spots or markings

people do upsize birds for show stock but takes time

thank's g.b that is what I was thinking, would chicks be improved in size if one parent was larger, not for show but improving aviary birds.

I have bred all different sized budgies with no issues. The main thing is a large cock bird mounting a significantly small hen may have trouble holding balance and a small cock bird over a large hen may not be able to reach his vent to hers - but they are in extreme cases

This is NOT an issue lilbabybudgies :thanks:

if you put a large bird with a small bird, then you might end up with a medium sized bird.If you are not showing, then size is not important.
thank's Dave as long as result's are possible without harming either bird.

Thank's Liv looks like it's up to the bird to make it happen. We can but try.
