Posted July 11, 200916 yr For those who don't know I run a bird rescue shelter and i have gotten all sorts of birds in. Well today I got called about a Cockatiel that needed a new home. Well I arrived and found this... This has to be the LARGEST Cockatiel I have ever seen! Cookie is about two years old and ended up being to big for his owners so they surenderred him to me.
July 11, 200916 yr he would make a nice mate for my pearl hen .... *Loves the sarchasm* he's a lovely bird... too big for my aviary though .
July 11, 200916 yr Author to big for the cockatiel cage they had him in. they went to the pet shop and bought a tiel cage and feed him a tiel diet, not sure how he survied the two years but now they are all scared of him, so new home has to be found. i really wish people knew what they where getting into before they purchased birds!
July 11, 200916 yr Indeed! Just having some room to move around will make him think he died and went to heaven. Were the people abashed when you told them what he was?
July 11, 200916 yr Author No they still insisted that he was a tiel! I think he is a bit freaked about the space he has. I have him in my HQ flight cage which I know alot of people have for 4 or 6 budgies well the cage looks soooooo small with him in it! But it is about twice the size of what he is use to.
July 11, 200916 yr No they still insisted that he was a tiel! Have these people lived in Australia long? Every zoo in the world has a sulphur crested - that and the kangaroo are the two types of fauna everyone knows!
July 11, 200916 yr if anyone is stupid enough to think that this bloke is a cockatiel then they know nothing about bird's and shouldnt even have had it in the first place
July 11, 200916 yr That's terrible...poor Cookie :bliss: Commonsense should have told them that the cage was WAY too small....poor Cookie, 2 years in solitary confinement with no crime commited..... You are an angel AV  I am such a sook I have tears in my eyes......they should be fined for cruelty...
July 11, 200916 yr Oh my  Poor guy. Have they got a computer... get them to google cockatiel... He is going to love all that space with you Av... Are you going to keep him or re-home him?
July 12, 200916 yr Author WEll he is very freaked out, new birds around him and larger cage. I have managed to find him a home with someone who have cockie experience which will be good. Now I have to try and work out how to get him back into a carry cage
July 12, 200916 yr these people should be shown what acockatiel really is. i feel so sorry for that bird!
July 12, 200916 yr THIS is a cockatiel.... see any resemblance between the cocky and the tiel? I think not! Edited July 12, 200916 yr by mattdog2
